Back then, he said, “You’d make something of yourself if you came to Gotham.” Me: “Why would I go to Gotham when I’m doing just fine? I’ll go when I’m about to die.” Years later, he angrily demands, “I told you to do Gotham, not me! Fine, you came here, but why aren’t you doing Batman?!” Me: “Weren’t you… a vigilante?” Him: “That was ten years ago! I quit being a vigilante ages ago!!” ◇ Palika is an alien. The creatures of planet PN43 have short lifespans. By Earth’s calendar, they live only twenty-one years. When they die, they become wind and water, nourishing the soil that gives life to the next generation. But there are exceptions. If they accomplish one thing, their lives can be extended, in exchange for their fate. Jason steels himself and asks, “What do I have to do? Find true love?” Palika: “No, rule a planet. When we come of age, we leave our homeworld and conquer other planets.” Jason: “Then you might as well wait to die!” Palika: “Actually, ruling a city can extend your life by a few years, too. A place like Gotham, for example…” Jason: “Don’t even think about it.” Palika: “You’re so stingy!” A few minutes later.
