Did Gin Go Solo with Me Today?

My guardian is really strange. He’s always scowling at me and never has a kind word to say, but whenever I’m in danger, he appears right away to save me. I thought about it for a long time and ran all kinds of tests, ruling out every wrong answer until I arrived at the one possible conclusion: I must be his true love. He has strange taste... I mean, excellent taste. Since he makes me feel so safe, I give everyone in the organization except the Boss a hard time. I swagger around, kicking any creature I don’t like, and I’m always trying to convince him that we should strike out on our own... Until one day, I discovered the truth behind his absolute protection: whenever my life is in danger, time rewinds for him, so he has no choice but to save me every time. And this time rewind has a time limit. When Gin was saddled with a genius little girl to look after by his Boss, he thought she wasn’t just the artificial intelligence his colleague had described. She seemed more like an artificial idiot. Then he realized he was trapped in a time loop, unable to move forward, and the culprit... was this little idiot. Whenever she was in danger, time went backward for him. So Gin had no choice but to suppress his desire to kill her and patiently rescue her every time, even when she wasn’t anywhere near him. As this seemingly pathological level of protection went on, rumors within the organization took all sorts of forms: brainwashing, conspiracy, karma, raising a child, true love... Meanwhile, the little idiot was still earnestly tugging on his sleeve and saying, “Gin, I think this organization is way too entrenched in its class system. The higher-ups all rely on family connections, and there are tons of undercover agents. We’re surrounded by trouble, and the risks keep going up. This place has no future. I think we should go solo! So run away with me!” Gin: “...” He badly wanted to get rid of this moron, but he’d already gotten used to her. Even when he discovered that time had stopped rewinding, he weighed the pros and cons and decided he’d invested too much to quit now. He might as well keep things as they were. Then the little brat silently defected to the enemy. Gin: “...” Suppressing the fury threatening to erupt, he forced his lips into a nearly vicious smile. Notes: 1.
