Loadable Slices of the World

A resource pack is more than just textures and audio files in a game engine. It is a metaphorical model for understanding everything in the world.

Memory, personality, family heritage, linguistic myths, the mood of an era, and the narratives of civilization: anything that can be accessed, inherited, overwritten, distributed, or hot-swapped is a resource pack. Anchored by the rigorous framework of digital engineering, this book breaks down how real engine resource packs are packaged, mounted, conflicted, and unloaded, while also examining the individual mind and interpreting society and civilization. You will learn to inspect the innate resource packs preinstalled in yourself, distinguish externally mounted assets, clear out bloated redundancies, resolve conflicts between packages, and actively complete your own version updates. Nothing in this world has an eternal, unchanging core. There are only resource fragments that are constantly chosen, modified, unloaded, and remade.
