Dazai Gets Married Young

[The other novel, Dazai Sensei Is Watching in Secret, is complete. My new novel, Dazai the Cat Is Farming and Slacking Off, is now available. Interested readers, come take a look! =3=] When Uzaki Kuri was fourteen, the guardian who had taken her in brought home a boy her age. The boy was thin, with a head of fluffy, slightly curly black hair and a pair of dove-gray eyes steeped in the darkness of night. With his young yet exquisitely beautiful, androgynous face, he looked just like a pretty, prim little black cat. And yet... "Miss Kuri, do you have a way to kill me?" Uzaki Kuri: ...? Is something wrong with his head? --The boy's name was Dazai. His ability could nullify other people's abilities. - Uzaki Kuri didn't like her ability. It could create poisons and antidotes based on how much she liked the person she used it on. The ability was extremely fickle: the more she hated someone, the stronger the poison; the more she liked someone, the more powerful the healing effect of the antidote. She couldn't remember anything from before she was twelve, but she did remember one thing: "She must never hate anyone." Everyone wanted the antidote, but the boy who longed for death stubbornly asked her for poison, even though it wouldn't work on him. "Miss Kuri, do you hate me now?" "No." "Then I'll come ask again later." "..." Uzaki Kuri: Please stop asking! While dealing with Dazai, she tried to understand him. It took her several years to finally realize that she had fallen in love with what was probably the only person in the world she could hate without holding back. - After bringing Dazai home, Mori always thought the three children in the household got along well. He thought so for years. Until Dazai secretly went and got a marriage certificate with Uzaki Kuri. Mori, in utter shock: Didn't I say, "Never let some stray boy of unknown origins take advantage of you"...? But I never said it was okay for a little brat from our own household! Tips: 1. The main story begins when Mori brings Dazai home. 2. Contains plenty of headcanons and canon alterations. This is my take on Dark-Era Dazai. 3. The heroine is doted on by everyone. She's a little ball of sunshine, and gradually learns to control her ability. 4. A slice-of-life story, with bittersweet and sweet moments between bunny and kitty. If something isn't for you, please stop reading. No need to tell me you're dropping it. 5. Content warnings in advance: The heroine was originally a substitute for Yosano. She has little contact with others, so at first she has little awareness of gender among people her own age. By the time they marry, the feelings are mutual, but Dazai's proposal does involve a certain amount of scheming. The heroine does not defect. This plot point comes much later. 6. Gugu is a sensitive little pigeon who only wants to hear people praise Dazai. Comments that aren't kind to Dazai will be eaten, but praise is always welcome! 7. Weibo: @DouqiHasDoneHerWritingToday 8. Huge thanks to the artist who drew the rabbit Dazai cover, @ChaiChai! And to all my friends who helped so much while I was putting the cover together. I love you all! [Old blurb below] One of the Armed Detective Agency's Seven Mysteries: The word "Married" on Dazai's personnel file. When asked about it himself, he replied with a smile: "Oh, that's right. I filed the marriage application a few years ago. Well, I'm so glad she said yes." "Dazai Sensei, isn't that marriage fraud...?" - Oda thought he was sure to die after his battle with Gide. But he never expected that not only would he survive, but the first thing his friend would say when he woke up was: "Odasaku, I'm married! Where's my wedding present?" Oda: I must still be dreaming. - After learning that the rabbit he raised had been stolen by the little Dazai rabbit he'd picked up, Mori just wanted to swear. But looking at the serene little girl before him, he couldn't bring himself to be angry with her. ...The face of pure misery. - Every member of the Port Mafia knows that the organization has three unwritten rules. Few know, however, that some members of the Port Mafia quietly follow a fourth rule of thumb. --Don't make Miss Bunny hate you. - Uzaki Kuri. Her nickname has always had something to do with rabbits. As the first child Mori took in, she was undoubtedly the most special. She was special not only because of all the privileges Mori gave her, but also because of her rare healing ability. Her ability, "The Little Witch in the Forest," lets her create poisons and antidotes based on how much she likes the person she uses it on. Like a true witch, the ability is extremely fickle: the more she hates someone, the stronger the poison; the more she likes someone, the more powerful the healing effect of the antidote. Because Uzaki Kuri's ability was so subjective, Mori had to limit her contact with the outside world and... spoil her until she became an innocent little princess. After all, everyone wants to stay alive. Except Dazai. The unusual boy caught Miss Bunny's attention perfectly. Theme: Keep a warm sun in your heart and follow the light.
