No Such Thing as a Small Matter at Home

What is happiness? Happiness is three meals a day, four seasons a year, and the warmth of everyday life. Where can it be found? In the little household matters that fill every day and night.

The most important part of family life is the relationship between parents and children. When children grow up and enter society, the roles of parents and children change. Both parents and children need time to adjust to this change, and conflicts between them are unavoidable along the way.

They say you don't understand your parents' kindness until you have children of your own. Once children establish their own families and become parents, once their former misunderstandings and resentment toward their parents turn to understanding and acceptance, once every grievance and rift has vanished, what remains is happiness.

This book tells the story of Lao Guan, a father born in the 1970s, and his daughter Xiao Guan, born in the 1990s. It follows the worries and struggles they face as she grows up and tackles major life matters like building a career and finding love and marriage. After a series of events, Lao Guan and Xiao Guan each find their place in life again and gain a deeper understanding of what happiness means. Their story reflects the thoughts and feelings, hopes and expectations of ordinary people in today's society, as well as their understanding of and pursuit of happiness.
