The Master of Dough Figurines

Jin Puyou was originally surnamed Aisin-Gioro. Not only was he a legitimate descendant of the imperial family, but his birth date and hour were even the same as those of the last emperor, Puyi. But fate was against him. His ancestors' misdeeds had repercussions for their descendants, and he received none of the family's hereditary stipends, leaving him to make his own way by learning a trade. Fortunately, he had extraordinary talent. Under the guidance of a master, he quickly became the most celebrated dough figurine artist in Beijing. After a romantic encounter with a woman from Japan, he mastered new techniques, and for a time, no one could rival him. He later headed south to Shanghai, blending Chinese and Western influences and elevating his craft to new heights. After coming into contact with progressive forces, he began to reflect on himself and gradually drew closer to the Party, doing his part to resist Japan and save the nation. After liberation, he was honored as a People's Artist and led an overseas tour, sharing traditional Chinese craftsmanship with the world.
