Mung Bean Ice and Sweet Porridge

On the day of the summer solstice, the workers at the Food Club braved the blazing sun to simmer mung beans. They blended the beans, cooked until they burst open, with milk and rock sugar into a smooth slush, then delivered it to a food delivery station. A delivery rider took the slush and eagerly tried a sip. "The mung bean aroma mixed with the milk, cool and sweet. I feel so much cooler already." He often had no time to drink water while making deliveries, and in this refreshing treat, he felt the warmth of being noticed. A cup of mung bean milk slush, it turned out, was more than just a sweet way to beat the heat. It was a tender gesture from the city to every hard-working person.
