A Letter of Secrets Meant Only for You

As begonia petals fall onto his shoulder, a boy copying the "Book of Songs" meets his childhood sweetheart. They make a vow with a flower, promising never to part until their hair turns white. The dried flowers and gold-embossed bookmark tucked into his notebook become a letter of the heart meant only for you. Years pass, and rain beats against the brocade box, breaking their promise. The old bookstore becomes a shell of memories, while a begonia etched into a cigarette burn conceals an obsession. Anonymous poems carry their longing, and a begonia sent to a wedding offers reconciliation. At last, as they read the verse “When flowers are in bloom, pluck a blossom,” they understand that being “as close as neighbors, though a thousand miles apart” can also be a happy ending. The scent of ink mingles with the spirit of begonias, and every unspoken thought is written into time's letter, full of Eastern romance and tenderness.

These letters hold so many little thoughts I couldn't bring myself to say when I was with you: the opening line I rehearsed again and again before seeing you, the longing I secretly wrote down after we parted, and the unspoken “I miss you too” as I gazed at the same cloud. Whenever words reached my lips, I feared they would fall short, so I folded them into a letter, hoping that when you opened it, you'd understand: every pause left unexplained, every sentence left unfinished, was tenderness I had hidden between the lines, hoping only that you would understand.
