My Boyfriend Is an Evil Brain Scientist

Blurb: (First person) (A relationship-focused two-hander; you can read this without knowing the original) (Comments on paragraphs are open; bookmark the story to comment)

My name is Kyoko. I’m an utterly ordinary high school girl, except I have two childhood friends who are anything but ordinary.

They’re brothers.

The older one is a genius scientist with an IQ of 218. He skipped ahead to Cambridge while still in high school, earned his master’s at nineteen, and is now working on his doctorate. He may even be able to read minds.

The younger one has beaten his brother countless times since they were kids. He looks like an ordinary person, but he’s an esper who can rival the gods.

Caught between them, I often feel like I don’t belong.

At that, Kusuke, the older brother, smiled with narrowed eyes as he ruffled my hair. “It’s fine, Kyoko. From my perspective, you’re an unimproved gorilla, but you’re just barely easy on the eyes, and I suppose you’re kind of cute. The fact that you realize how ordinary and unremarkable you are already makes you much better than that herd of stupid pigs.”

Thanks for the compliment.

Aside from constantly getting dragged into their competitions, my life was pretty peaceful.

Until one day, when Kusuke suddenly confessed to me and shattered that peace.

Sure, he’s handsome, smart, and rich, but he’s also a weirdo, so I turned him down!

Rejected by me and always losing to his younger brother, Kusuo, Kusuke flew into a rage and went off to Cambridge University.

That’s a genius for you. Even the way he has a meltdown is utterly unique.

Before leaving, after a whole night of sulking, Kusuke gave me a mockingly sweet smile and said, “Just you wait, Kyoko. One day I’ll prove that I’m the one most suited for you. Every other man is just a monkey. Surely you wouldn’t fall in love with a monkey, would you?”

If I remember correctly, you also called me a gorilla.

And then I started to notice...

Whenever I got too close to the class representative, messages would appear on my phone, listing all his flaws and explaining why we weren’t right for each other, like Sherlock Holmes picking apart clues.

Whenever I went to an amusement park with someone, Kusuke’s face would pop up on every electronic device we passed, along with a stream of venomous insults aimed at my male companion.

On every holiday, my birthday, and just about any weekend, gifts from Cambridge University in England would show up at my door. The sender was Kusuke.

He wasn’t in my life, and yet somehow he was everywhere in it.

Damn it, just because you know high-tech stuff doesn’t mean you’re all that!

Later, Kusuke came back to Japan after finishing his studies.

The first thing he did when he saw me was give me a fake, sweet smile and ask, “Kyoko, have you spotted any monkeys that haven’t finished evolving yet? Want me to help you assess them? Ha ha, as it happens, I have a cage at home. Perfect for keeping monkeys on display.”

Get lost! Show some respect for animals!

After Kusuke and I started dating, the token of his love that he gave me was a completely baffling headband.

Me: “What is this?”

Kusuke smiled and put it on me, then took out a remote. “I’ve named it the ‘Love Kusuke Forever’ controller. As soon as I press the button, I can check and adjust how much you love me, Kyoko. Let’s see, the current reading is... Oh, 80.”

His expression froze for a moment, then he smiled again. “That’s okay. Let’s adjust it. I’ll just bump it up to 120, way off the charts~”

Me: Don’t you dare touch that button!!

0. The pairing is Kusuke, who has very, very few fanfics, especially romance ones. I’ll do my best to make this readable even if you haven’t seen the original. Just treat it as an ordinary fluffy romance.

1. OOC!! Mainly based on the anime! There will be lots of headcanon.

2. Kusuke is a love-struck older brother here. I know he’s also a brocon, but I’ll tone that down and make some changes. In short, he’s OOC. They’re dating, after all, so of course things will be different from the original. Please read with caution if that bothers you.

3. Kusuke, it’s time to rise up!

4. OOC, OOC, OOC (repeating it three times because it’s important). I’m not the original author, and I can’t reproduce the characters perfectly. Their decisions are based on the original work plus the plot of this story. I’ll do my best to stay true to them, but I can’t truly recreate them. My own interpretation will inevitably influence my writing. You and I may see things differently, and there’s no need to force an agreement. And please don’t demand that I write the characters according to your own imagined versions. Thank you! (bows three times) (So comments along those lines will be deleted. Thanks for understanding.)
