JJWXC Explained: Favorites, Nutrition, Clicks and the Rankings

Jinjiang is where a lot of the danmei, baihe and romance English readers know got its start, and its numbers work nothing like Qidian's or Fanqie's.

JJWXC (晋江文学城, Jinjiang Literature City, usually just 晋江) was the third platform to join DaoSearch, and it's a different world from Qidian and Fanqie. Qidian is built around long paid epics, Fanqie around a free feed. Jinjiang is the home of female-oriented fiction: romance, danmei and baihe, and a lot of the titles English readers know started there.

Its numbers are different too, and they're easy to misread if you're used to Qidian's votes or Fanqie's reads. So here's what's on a JJWXC row and how to use it.

What's on JJWXC

About 2.28 million JJWXC books are listed here, more than on any other platform. JJWXC's top-level split isn't setting or genre in the Qidian sense. It's orientation: who the romance is between, or whether there is one at all.

Category Chinese Books
Romance 言情 ~1,112,000
Danmei (BL) 纯爱 ~736,000
No CP 无CP ~155,000
Baihe (GL) 百合 ~123,000
Multi-Orientation 多元 ~40,000

Plus a few thousand children's titles filed by age band.

Setting lives elsewhere. Each book also has an era (ancient, modern, future and so on), a theme and a point of view, and those show up as chips on the book page.

One more thing to know up front: JJWXC is an open writing site, so plenty of what it hosts isn't a novel. Reviews of other books, poetry, one-chapter placeholders, abandoned stubs, and short drafts that almost nobody read. We hold those but don't list them, which is why the stats page shows nearly three million JJWXC entries as not indexed. What you browse here is the novels.

Favorites (收藏)

The headline number and the default sort. A favorite is a reader adding the book to their collection, the same idea as a bookshelf add on the other platforms.

The spread is steep. From a random sample of listed JJWXC books in late September:

  • the median book has 4 favorites
  • the top quarter starts around 47
  • the top 10% starts around 650
  • the top 1% starts around 18,000

Only about one book in twelve reaches 1,000 favorites, and only about one in nine hundred reaches 100,000. So a JJWXC book with six figures of favorites is a real hit. The most favorited book here is 天官赐福 (Heaven Official's Blessing), with more than 3.3 million, followed by 某某 (So-and-So) and 全球高考 (Global College Entrance Exam).

Clicks per chapter (章均点击)

This one trips everyone up. The clicks figure JJWXC gives is 章均点击: the average clicks per chapter, not a total. A 500-chapter serial showing 800k doesn't have 800k clicks overall, it averages 800k on every chapter.

That's why the column says Clicks/ch. It's also a decent read-through signal, because a book that loses its readers after chapter 10 drags its average down with every chapter that follows.

Nearly every book has one, about 89% in our sample. The median is around 290, and the top 10% start above 4,700. Sort the catalogue by it and you get the books people read all the way through.

Nutrition (营养液)

营养液 literally means "nutrient solution". It's JJWXC's free vote currency: readers give it to books they like, and giving it is called 灌溉, "watering" the book. It's the closest thing JJWXC has to Qidian's tickets, but free, so read it as enthusiasm rather than money.

Only about three books in ten have any nutrition at all. Among those, the median is about 40, and the top 10% start around 1,900. JJWXC's Reader Nurture board (读者栽培榜) ranks by it, and you can sort the whole catalogue by nutrition too.

Score

JJWXC has a real 0 to 10 reader score, but it only shows one once enough people have rated a book. About one listed book in seven has a score. Where there is one it skews high: the median is 8.7, and about one scored book in five sits at a perfect 10.0.

So score lives on the book page rather than in the list rows. It's a good sanity check and a poor thing to sort by.

霸王票: the paid ticket

霸王票 ("overlord tickets") are the paid tickets JJWXC readers buy and throw at a book, the biggest single show of support on the site. They don't get a column, but the King Ticket board (霸王票总榜) ranks by them.

The rankings

JJWXC publishes twelve site-wide boards, and every one comes sliced six ways by channel:

  • Original 原创: all original work across orientations, minus fan fiction. JJWXC has no single "everything" view, so this is our default.
  • Romance 言情, Danmei 纯爱, Baihe 百合 and No CP 无CP+
  • Fanfiction 衍生

The boards worth knowing:

  • Monthly (月度排行榜), plus Quarterly and Half-Year: what's leading the site over each window.
  • Completed Gold (完结金榜): finished books only, ranked against other finished books. The best place to start if you want something with an ending. Some channels run much deeper than others: try the No CP or Baihe slice.
  • King Ticket (霸王票总榜) and Reader Nurture (读者栽培榜): ranked by paid tickets and by nutrition.
  • New Authors (新晋作者榜): debut and newly arrived authors ranked among themselves, so you can catch something early.
  • Hall of Eternity (长生殿): JJWXC's long-run honour board, the enduring titles.
  • Total Score (总分榜): JJWXC's own cumulative 积分 score.
  • Diligence Index (勤奋指数榜): ranked by how steadily the author updates.

Per-channel boards like VIP Gold (VIP金榜) show up too, inside the channel they belong to.

Filters only JJWXC has

Point of view. JJWXC records whose head each story is told from (主视角). For danmei that's the shou/gong split, and the filter uses the words readers search for: Bottom-Lead (Shou) for 主受, Top-Lead (Gong) for 主攻, Switching for 互攻. For romance it's mostly Female Lead 女主 or Male Lead 男主.

Tags, with a caveat. JJWXC uses only about 300 tags across its whole catalogue, against nearly 900 on Qidian. So each tag covers a lot of books and acts more like a category than a precise filter. Combine a tag with a category and a sort rather than leaning on it alone. The tag glossary explains the common ones.

Booklists

About 125,000 JJWXC booklists are listed here, more than any other platform. JJWXC grades its lists A, B or C, and you can filter to A-level lists, about 23,000 of them. The default sort is when the list last changed, so you see curators who are still at it. Inside a list, the sort control reorders every book on it by favorites, clicks per chapter, nutrition, length or last update. Why booklists are worth your time.

Where to start

  1. Start on the Monthly board and switch channels with the chips at the top, Danmei for example.
  2. Or browse a category by favorites, like danmei, and add a status or POV filter. Most ongoing JJWXC books have gone quiet, so if you want one that's still being written, add the Updated filter too. More on that.
  3. Found an author you like? Every book page links to their other books.
