Blurb: (Starting to stockpile chapters!) (The title has changed. The old title was My Dao Companion Died and Her Disciple Took Her Place. I didn't think it quite fit, so this new one is more suitable.)
Wen Ling was born frail and plagued by illness. She couldn't gather spiritual energy or cultivate to become an immortal, and barring a miracle, she would die in just a few years.
But she was lucky enough to take Wu Wang Zhenjun of the Lingxin Sect as her Dao companion.
At first, no one approved of their union. Everyone wondered when Wu Wang Zhenjun would grow tired of this useless mortal and cast her aside.
Even Wen Ling worried about it herself. If Wu Wang Zhenjun stopped loving her, she would lose the spiritual energy that nourished her body, as well as the endless supply of lingzhi pills that she ate like candy.
Fortunately, Wu Wang Zhenjun was very passionate about her. Even while busy cultivating, meditating in seclusion, teaching disciples, or exploring secret realms, she always made time to be intimate with Wen Ling and spend tender days together.
But how long can a cultivator's patience and affection last? Given enough time, even the most beautiful lover becomes tiresome. Wen Ling had to make plans for her future.
She needed to choose her next Dao companion in advance.
Wen Ling set her sights on Wu Wang Zhenjun's disciple, Shi Qingshao, hailed as an unparalleled talent with the greatest chance of ascending to immortality.
When they first met, Shi Qingshao was still a girl. She was stunningly beautiful, with an ethereal, immortal bearing, but young, inexperienced, and immature. She also hated Wen Ling, believing that Wen Ling had led her master astray.
Whenever Wen Ling deliberately teased her, she would fly into a rage, her face turning red as she bristled. But as she watched Wen Ling smile at her, the anger in her heart slowly changed into something else.
She no longer dared to look Wen Ling in the eye.
This was her master's wife.
That one title was enough to suppress every flutter and fantasy in Shi Qingshao's heart.
Ten years passed in a flash.
The good news was that Wen Ling still hadn't been abandoned. The bad news was that Wu Wang Zhenjun had failed her tribulation and passed away before her.
Wen Ling had no choice but to look for a new Dao companion. She chose Shi Qingshao, whom she had already picked out before.
Ten years later, the girl who had once worn her heart on her sleeve, quick to anger and bristle, had become the unflappable, peerless number-one cultivator in the world of cultivation.
Late at night, Wen Ling knocked on her door.
Looking at the person she had long desired, Shi Qingshao closed her eyes. "Mistress, please show some restraint."
Wen Ling gave a soft laugh. "Your master is dead. Who are you still pretending for?"
She had noticed long ago the way this little wolf cub looked at her when she thought no one was watching. It was not the way a disciple looked at her master's wife.
Wen Ling stepped forward and rested a hand on her shoulder.
"Do you want me or not?"
Shi Qingshao held her hand and pulled her close.
The overwhelming feelings that had tormented her day and night swept over her completely. This time, she no longer wanted to resist.

1. The female lead (Wen Ling) has an ex, her Dao companion (a woman). They did everything a couple would do. She has a role in the earlier chapters but dies later. After her death, Wen Ling falls in love with her disciple, Shi Qingshao.
2. The female lead does have genuine feelings, but not many [important].
3. This is the kind of tangled, push-and-pull master-wife story I want to write. The disciple won't immediately go all-in and turn evil; she'll struggle with her feelings in all sorts of ways. If it's not to your taste, don't force yourself to read it.
4. To comply with Jinjiang's rules, the story is one-on-one in stages. The female lead won't cheat while in a relationship with her master. I'm not sure whether readers will like the master or the disciple more. Although separate endings are allowed now, there are still many restrictions, so there may not be an extra chapter about the master. I suggest treating these as two separate romances.
5. The female lead isn't powerful.
