My Personal Picks: The Best of the Best, Half of Them Obscure and Niche
A little of everything, from niche and obscure to classics. I started reading Water Margin: The Sequel in third grade, and now I've been reading for a full 33 years. I've read countless novels. There are plenty of good books I can't think of right now, as well as books I remember being decent but have forgotten, so I'll add them as they come back to me. Basically, three stars means they're worth a read; don't expect any five-star ratings. Here are some I'm following lately.
Japanese-Style Reading List
These are all niche Japanese-style books!
No Famous Titles, No Beginner-Friendly Fluff. Mainly Creative, Plot-Driven Stories
Lately I've found that historical fiction isn't as interesting as real history. A lot of the speculation is just wishful thinking. After reading The Capital and The State and Revolution, I feel like reading historical news is more interesting. Most historical web novels on Qidian are full of nonsense and make no sense at all. Ge Qin is passable, though. I mostly recommend lesser-known works. The hidden gems are the best books on Qidian. Aside from Wuzei, most famous authors write pretty average
ACG, Business, Reborn
There's a mix of completed books and new works. I especially like anime-inspired and business stories, but not crossover anime fiction, since most of it is so crudely written that it's awkward to read. I'll keep updating the list. I generally add books after reading them, and I'll catch up on anything I haven't read yet before adding it.
Happiness Comes from Sharing the Same Values
Having similar values means seeing the world like this: Most people are reasonably intelligent; brainless behavior is just a game mechanic. Most people have sensible ideas about relationships. Harem fantasies where everyone gets along are just wishful thinking. Most people have a balanced sense of right and wrong. Truly bad people are just as rare as good people, and excessive selfishness and arrogance aren't worth praising. A little wish fulfillment is fine, but nothing over the top.
