Lin Shuiyin deceived a god into falling in love with him.
For the sake of immortality.
Later, the god died.
Before dying, the god laid a curse: every time he died, when he opened his eyes again, he would madly fall in love with the first living being he saw.
Lin didn't think much of it.
After all, how was that not another kind of immortality?
[Ancient Arc: Dreams of a Fleeting Life]
Atop a high terrace, a fallen noble and a poor swordsman fell in love at first sight.
The gulf between their stations left him unable to escape his feelings.
The poor swordsman owned nothing but a rusty sword and was highly skilled in martial arts. Yet the one he loved was an aloof noble "girl."
"She" said "she" wanted to go with him, but his inferiority and cowardice made him turn away.
"I'm sorry..."
"You really said goodbye to her just like that?" His friend, a fellow swordsman, stared at him in disbelief. "You didn't explain a thing, just stood there like an idiot and watched her get taken away by your rival?!!"
His rakish friend had never doubted the truth of the story he'd told, but he couldn't help feeling that his final choice was a waste of a good man.
But later, when this same passionate swordsman met a lover whose station was worlds apart from his, afflicted by a curse and beset by illness, he realized with despair and grief that what he had said back then was merely the arrogant dismissal of an ignorant man.
How could he bear to make his gravely ill lover abandon everything and wander the world with him?
"A swordsman again?!" He darkened his expression.
His old family friend, a young nobleman, angrily knocked on the door and rushed to the bedside. Layers of curtains veiled the frail figure lying on the bed.
He heard the coughing that went on and on, and his anger gradually faded as he slowed his steps.
"A Yin," he said, leaning over the bedside and gazing sadly at his pale-faced fiance. "Let's get married."
A sickly noblewoman and a down-on-his-luck swordsman.
The story sparked a flicker of interest in him.
The legendary "Baixiaosheng," who supposedly knew everything under the sun, disguised himself as a wandering painter and went to the century-old banyan tree where the story's protagonists had first met.
With keen interest, he set up his easel and began painting. But as he finished, he discovered there was an extra person in the picture.
No, that person had been there all along.
The wind stirred the banyan leaves, making them rustle.
As if sensing something, the person lifted his eyes slightly. Leaves silently fell behind him, and the painter met his gaze, eyes steeped in sorrow and gloom.
Upon meeting him, Baixiaosheng realized that there were people in this world who seemed, with just one glance, to have seen countless stories.
And he soon learned that this person was the "female" protagonist of that tragic tale.
A pitiful soul forced to dress as a woman because of a fortune-teller's prediction that he was destined to be cursed with loneliness, and due to marry the young lord of the Marquis's estate that very day?
He slowly furrowed his brow.
No, he couldn't stand to see two people who loved each other fail to end up together.
So the fake painter packed away his easel, transformed into a wanted criminal whose likeness was posted on the city walls, and abducted the Marquis's young lord's bride on her grand wedding day.
The sparrows on the branches scattered in alarm. He lifted the bride's red veil, revealing a cheeky grin.
"My bride, how about I take you to find your husband?"
*In short, the male lead is selfish and self-serving. For now, there's only the ancient martial-world arc, but I also want to write a dark modern city arc: a lovesick, manipulative Lin who helps a tiger do evil, and a highly intelligent, antisocial high schooler. The cold high schooler wants to become an agent of evil, and tricks the handsome but brainless internet celebrity Lin into helping him with affection. Then one day, he makes a mistake and Lin loses his memory and falls for someone else.
