Michael figured he must have forgotten to pay Lucifer back in a past life, because in this life everything involving Lucifer turned into a mess.

At the dawn of creation, he pursued this first creation of God, Heaven’s vice-regent and the shining Morning Star, for a full hundred thousand years. At last, he managed to bring the celebrated beauty of the Three Realms down from his pedestal.

But after they got married, Michael lost interest in Lucifer and turned to Lucifer’s sworn enemy, the gentle and handsome scribe of Heaven, Heaven’s right-hand man.

The seven-year itch, you know? Besides, they’d already been married for ninety thousand years.

Michael was convinced that his story with Lucifer was destined to end with the vice-regent catching him and Metatron together one day, after which they would part ways and become enemies.

But fate apparently loved a joke. Michael never got to see the ending he expected. Lucifer fell from Heaven first, and severed the passage between Heaven and Hell as a bonus.

Michael: …

It seemed fate was once again on his side. He could avoid facing Lucifer and smoothly begin his wonderful life with a lover on either arm.

For a while, Michael thought that his story with Lucifer could be nothing more than a real-life, cheating-and-breakup melodrama. The only real difference, if there was one, was that the main characters had higher status.

After becoming Heaven’s leader, Michael grew bolder and bolder. His conquests expanded from Heaven to all three realms, and it was no trouble at all for him to seduce Lilith, the Night Witch, known as the most beautiful woman in Hell.

Having a witch for a lover wouldn’t normally be a big deal. The problem was that Lilith wasn’t an ordinary witch. More famous than her position as leader of the witches was her other identity: Lucifer’s wife, the Queen of Hell.

The drama Michael had missed a hundred thousand years ago finally unfolded. When the affair came to light, the former leader of Heaven and its current leader, the Lord of Hell and Heaven’s vice-regent, went from former partners to rivals in love, battling it out in the Void.

After that, with no way to explain himself, Michael simply doubled down and let all three realms know he was having an affair with Lilith, crowning Lucifer with a green hat.

Sure enough, ever since Lucifer caught him and Lilith in bed together, his attitude toward Michael had gone from mutual loathing to always wanting to fight whenever they met.

The only thing that seemed a little off to Michael was what Lucifer said before each fight.

“Michael, you really are something.”

“Do you like Lilith that much?”

“When we were together, why weren’t you ever this jealous?”

“Michael, am I really not as good as Lilith in your eyes?”

Michael: …Why, why does that sound more and more wrong?

Lucifer discovered that his partner, who had pursued him for a hundred thousand years and seemed so warm, cheerful, and optimistic, was actually a fickle, promiscuous, womanizing bastard.

But somehow, he still loved him.

[Bonus Scene]

Lilith, the Night Witch, was notorious throughout the Three Realms for her many lovers.

The Holy Son Messiah was her first husband, the Demon King Lucifer was her partner, Samael, Lord of Wrath, was her first love, and Michael, Heaven’s vice-regent, was her lover.

Every man’s ideal, every woman’s enemy.

Lilith: Ideal, my foot. (￣_￣|||)

Messiah had been secretly in love with Michael since their time in the Garden of Eden.

Samael was single, but already had both a son and a daughter.

Michael had enough lovers to fill a history book of the Three Realms.

And as for Lucifer

The Night Witch said disdainfully that she’d never be interested in a coward who couldn’t get over being dumped and wouldn’t admit he was in love with the other person.
