Michael has never understood why, when they could stay single, there are fools willing to get married and willingly lock themselves in the prison of matrimony.
Him and Metatron, for example...
He is happy to be lovers, but marriage has never been what he wanted.
Sometimes Michael wonders how he and Metatron ended up where they are, one step at a time.
They were born of the same source, and have been colleagues for a full four hundred thousand years, from the dawn of creation to the present day.
They reunited on a rainy night in Holy Furia and stood together once more. This time, they were friends for two hundred thousand years.
Later, their relationship became that of lovers, and eventually partners.
Every angel thought they were destined to be together.
The Archangel of Fire and Heaven's Registrar, the Lord of Heaven's right and left hands, and the fruit of their love: Heaven's young prince, Haniya, who held the authority over light from the day he was born.
A match made in heaven, perfectly in tune: that was how countless angels described them.
Yet only those caught up in it knew that the marriage so envied by all the angels in Heaven was, in truth, nothing but one headache after another.
Before and after marriage, Metatron always had lovers by the dozens. He could go three hundred years without repeating one.
Michael was entangled with Raphael, had affairs with leaders from all three realms, and was almost never around outside of work.
So in Michael's heart, there was affection and desire between him and Metatron, but no love.
After spending two hundred thousand years as Heaven's deputy ruler, Michael decides to fall from grace and find somewhere else to shine.
Not long after arriving in Hell, Michael gets back together with the Demon King Lucifer. They marry and have a child, and Michael throws away everything he experienced during his hundreds of thousands of years in Heaven.
Metatron, meanwhile, quickly marries too, and shows off his love for his new wife all over Heaven, feeding every angel a steady diet of public displays of affection.
"I wish him a happy marriage and a lifetime of wedded bliss."
Asked about Metatron, Michael, now one of the Seven Deadly Sins, lounges in the ruler of Hell's arms, looking utterly unconcerned.
"May those who love each other end up together."
Asked about Michael, Heaven's Registrar holds an unknown-numbered beauty in his arms, with the latest maple-red lipstick from Holy Furia smeared on his collar.
And where no one can see, the fallen angel with dark red hair is pinned against a wall by the normally gentle, handsome Registrar of Heaven, the corners of his eyes flushed with tears.
"Michael, how dare you leave me all alone?"
[Extra Scene]
In Michael's eyes, Metatron can't compare to Lucifer in looks, Raphael in bearing, or Lofis in charm. His main virtues are probably his money and his generosity toward Michael.
Well, being tolerant and generous, and never minding when Michael takes lovers elsewhere, counts as a virtue too.
Only after Metatron has him pinned to the bed, driving him to collapse and beg for mercy, does Michael finally shed tears of regret.
Why did he ever think this bastard was kind, gentle, tolerant, and magnanimous?!
Metatron, who has romanced his way through a hundred flowers x Michael, who only wants power
Notes:
1. Not a conventional groveling-after-the-wife story.
2. Couple: Metatron x Michael. Lucifer has the role of the unattainable first love.
Theme: Only after wandering through countless romances do you learn to cherish a steady, enduring love
