In my Nth year playing "Earth Three," I finally discovered that this System had at least one redeeming feature.
A humanoid creature lay on the ground. Bruce Wayne, the NPC younger brother I couldn't control, was at my feet, his health bar blank.
There was no doubt about it: he was dead.
So I put his corpse in my System inventory.
System: ?
So besides working hard to rule Gotham, I now had to spend every day searching for a way to resurrect Bruce. I had little time and a lot to do, and the whole process was full of twists and turns: my adopted son thought I was using him as a replacement and sulked every few days; my allies thought my black-hair-and-blue-eyes fetish was beyond saving and were determined to recommend new lovers who fit their own preferences; and Gotham's many deranged do-gooders thought I'd gone completely mad. They challenged my rule of Gotham every day, trying to prove that people ought to find love elsewhere sooner.
It was annoying. (My adopted son excepted.)
Just as I finally finished building antimatter fireworks and was about to show the world that peace and quiet were precious, the System spoke up.
System: Collect the righteous endings of seven simulated universes and you can bring your Bruce back. Are you in?
I'm in. Why are you only telling me something this important now?
After entering the simulated universes, I stared at the teenagers sent to prison for pickpocketing / the demented boy with a missing lobe of his brain / the disabled person set on fire for fun by a brat / the Joker grinning with a mouthful of yellow teeth / the hard-to-describe little brat, and fell silent.
Where was my exquisitely carved, sweet, adorable, lively, kind younger brother? Who were all these people?
In short, after collecting the endings of seven simulated universes, I finally achieved my long-held wish.
Bruce was resurrected. Hooray!
But wait, why does this Bruce talk like such a dad? He sounds like he's raised four, five, six kids.
At the same time, the Bruces I raised in the simulated universes had followed me here, too.
Pennyworth: I told you long ago to be devoted in matters of the heart.
Me: ...
Am I not devoted enough? I only wanted to bring my Bruce back!
Little skit:
Maybe because I pull too many wild stunts, some people seem to have completely misunderstood me.
For what must be the hundredth time, butler Pennyworth made a sarcastic remark that I ought to live in a church instead of a manor. He'd be happy to tear down Jesus and put up an Owlman statue in his place.
That's him for you. Even his curses that I should die are so elegant. Everyone knows God is dead.
Wait, then there shouldn't be a problem with me becoming the god of this world, should there?
So I asked Ultraman, this god among men, if he minded sharing the rights to that title.
Before me, his thin, plain face flushed pink. Then he turned away. Damn, he actually looked bashful as a young girl. "Since you've asked so sincerely, I'll be merciful. As long as you..."
A few meters away, Bruce watched me as though I were going astray. Without a word, he turned and left. I instinctively followed him, and spent several seconds wondering why he'd just arrived and was already leaving.
Oh well. I'm used to it. I'll just quietly follow him, and he'll be back to normal in a bit.
Ultraman, who had talked at length and then turned around to find no one there: ?
"Reading Guide"
A story about a crazy Owlman who crashes into everyone. Lots of Batmen, lots of crossover chaos.
Morally gray, eclectic, and here for the fun, with a love-hate romance and a whole lot of people falling for him. If you have any hard limits, please proceed with caution!
