After I Confessed to My Cold Boss in a Fit of Madness

[Complete!] [Upcoming novel: My Boss Is a Dog. Please add it to your list; blurb at the very bottom 333] Chen Yuqing is an overworked secretary with a thoroughly awful boss: sharp-tongued, fussy, cold, and infuriating. Even though the man has a handsome face, every time he orders Chen Yuqing around, Chen Yuqing wants to punch him straight through the wall. One day, Chen Yuqing comes across a post [I went crazy and confessed to my boss. My picky boss gave me a raise] It’s about an overworked employee who does his job without complaint but still gets mocked by his boss. He goes crazy and confesses to him, and after the boss gets over his shock, he suddenly becomes gentle and even gives the employee a raise. Chen Yuqing has never imagined something like that could work. Confused, bewildered, and slightly horrified, he decides to give it a try. After another round of mockery at a work dinner, Chen Yuqing, hoping to disgust the man, throws his arms around his boss and starts wailing as if he means it “President Sheng, I really do like you, sob…” “Sob… If I didn’t like you, I wouldn’t have put up with you scolding me for four years instead of quitting.” “Waaah!” His secretary suddenly launches into a wild confession. The boss freezes, helpless, stunned, and shattered. The boss grits his teeth. “You’re drunk.” Chen Yuqing wails, “I’m not drunk, I’m not drunk!!” He refuses to listen and doubles down, attacking him with lines from the post. The next day, Chen Yuqing faces his boss, who looks pale and has dark circles under his eyes. He puts on a graceful smile and calmly says, “I was drunk.” * Chen Yuqing expects Sheng Qin to make him pay, but the other man says nothing. Not only that, he often looks at Chen Yuqing with a complicated expression. He stops nitpicking and mocking him, and when Chen Yuqing brings in his coffee, he even clears his throat and says, “Just leave it there.” His attitude is positively wonderful. Chen Yuqing is overjoyed. So the trick really works! His working conditions improve, and he’s so happy that he doesn’t dwell on his drunken outburst. Whatever. It doesn’t matter, until he realizes his boss is getting stranger and stranger. The boss has always talked about nothing but work, so Chen Yuqing has no idea why he suddenly starts telling him other things. His voice is as cold as ever, but what he says is bizarre. For example: “I’m taking tomorrow off at home. I’ve caught a cold.” “I’m going on a business trip next Wednesday. I’ll be passing through Haishi; I hear the scenery is nice.” “Someone came to my house, so I can’t get away. Don’t worry if I’m not at the office.” Chen Yuqing gives the same reply to all of it: “Understood, President Sheng.” But inside, he can’t help grumbling Why should I care if you’re taking time off? I still have to work! As if you won’t still order me around when you go on a business trip! Who the hell is worried about you? It’d be better if you didn’t show up! Even as he grumbles, he can’t help wondering what’s going on. He writes up his experience and asks the internet for advice. The most-liked comment on his post reads [He’s already reporting his schedule to you, and you’re still all “Makka Pakka.”] Chen Yuqing: “?” * One day, Sheng Qin visits his secretary’s home. He remembers the sweet words his secretary confessed to him that night: “Set your front-door password to your birthday plus 520. Every time you enter it, you can secretly tell yourself you love me.” He feels unexpectedly moved. With pursed lips, he carefully enters the numbers one by one. The password is incorrect. Sheng Qin: “?” [A sweet, snarky secretary bottom & a sharp-tongued, cold, but hopelessly romantic and self-deluded CEO top] P.S. 1. An older bottom with a younger feel & a younger top with an older feel 2. Alternate universe where same-sex marriage is legal 3. Mostly everyday life, lighthearted and funny, with a plot that defies logic. Don’t scrutinize the details. Upcoming novel begins here My Boss Is a Dog Tao Mingxi joins a well-known company as an assistant to its CEO. Only after starting work does he discover how fussy and demanding the CEO is. From then on, the boss criticizes him over every little thing and treats him with icy disdain. Every day at work feels like a prison sentence to Tao Mingxi, but the salary is just too good. He grits his teeth and puts up with it. One day, after working late into the night, Tao Mingxi is on his way home when he finds an injured dog. Unable to leave it shivering on the street, he takes it home, treats its wounds, and gives it a good wash. It turns out to be a long-haired German Shepherd. The German Shepherd is imposing and handsome, with sleek black-and-brown fur. It sits with relaxed poise but unmistakable strength, its pointed ears pricked up alertly. But that haughty, appraising stare always reminds Tao Mingxi of his boss, which brings back memories of how difficult he is to please and sets off a burst of inexplicable anger. Then, in an instant, Tao Mingxi calms down and pats his face. It must be my imagination. Dogs are humanity’s best friends, and he can put up with a little adorable fluffball attitude. As time goes by, Tao Mingxi and the dog grow closer. When he’s happy, he pulls the dog into a waltz. When he’s unhappy, he complains to the dog about how awful his boss is, and how much he wants to stuff the man down the toilet and flush him away. Before heading to work each day, he gives the dog a big, cheerful cuddle and says sweetly, “Baby, Daddy’s going to work. Be a good boy at home today!” With the dog for company, Tao Mingxi finds that even his mood at work improves. * Tao Mingxi thinks his boss has been acting stranger and stranger lately. Outside of work, the man often sneaks glances at him with an inscrutable look, then looks away as if nothing happened when Tao Mingxi catches him. When Tao Mingxi is picking out treats for the dog at home, his boss suddenly butts in and says this one isn’t tasty, and that he should choose another. He even suggests buying more.
