Sanity-Lowering Horror Stories: Please Don't Steal the Underworld's Work

Primarily a school-set rules horror story, but with a hodgepodge of elements.

An atypical horror tale, featuring nested supernatural stories. Here, you might even see the Underworld compete with “it” for credit (

Couple dynamic: Li Pingyao, a rich family's dim-witted son who is immune to the paranormal, pulls off godlike stunts, has never seen anything supernatural but firmly believes in certain aspects of traditional Chinese culture, × Lin Heyuan, a materialist who encounters the supernatural in everyday life yet firmly believes in science and Marxism, has a laid-back personality, and never thinks he has seen a ghost.

Memorable scenes:

1. A severed hand crawls ominously across the ground.

Lin: (stops) (crouches down) (examines it carefully)

Li: (stops too) (follows Lin's gaze) (sees nothing, but notices Lin frowning) (delighted) Is there something here?

Lin: (thoughtfully) It must be a special material with optical camouflage. From your angle, you probably can't see it.

Li: (confidently reaches out) Why isn't there anything here? (deeply disappointed)

Lin: ...Since you can't see it, I'll describe it for you. It may have dissolved from your body heat just now. I can't see it anymore either.

Severed hand: ...6

2.

Li: “Hey, buddy, how come you're in high school at the same age as me?”

Lin: “Oh, I was weak as a child and spent two years bedridden. What about you?”

Li: “Oh, I skipped school for two years and got held back.” (Actually, he didn't.)

Lin: “...6.” Typical you.

Then Lin Heyuan clenches his fists after discovering that the other guy had been making everything up. He had thought he was the younger one, so he'd been forced to put up with the other guy constantly taking verbal liberties with him. (
