I Found a Cat

[Everything may change based on inspiration before the story begins] I picked up an ordinary cat on my way home from work. From that day on, I suddenly started noticing strange things. The dark alley on my way home seemed to have no end. Behind me, I heard the faint sound of high heels, each step perfectly in time with my own. Even though I had missed the last bus, a bus came swaying toward me in the distance, its doors wide open. I caught the smell of burning paper. Every night at 3:08, three knocks sounded right on time. A faint crackle of static came through the phone when I answered: "Open the door. Let me in." People say black cats bring bad luck, but I’ve never been very superstitious. "So none of this has anything to do with you, right?" I asked the cat sitting on my lap. The creature called a "cat" blinked its five scarlet eyes. As its tentacles slowly coiled around my ankle, it shook its head and denied everything: "Of course not." I nodded, deciding to be generous and believe it. After all, it had helped me a lot. Even before I picked it up, my basement and refrigerator were already full of my own corpses. Without it, I could never eat them all by myself. Before You Read: 1. Fixed 1v1 pairing.
