The civilization humanity had built was wiped out. The few people left in the world moved into the only underground ark. Eighty years later, the disasters on the surface subsided. At last, those who had taken refuge underground had a chance to leave the ark where they had lived their whole lives and set foot in the world above. The forests of reinforced concrete once built by humanity had become unrecognizable ruins. The brilliance of technology had faded, and the new generation could only imagine what the old world had been like from the fragmentary, blurred records in their textbooks. They did not know what helicopters, cars, skyscrapers, or submarines were. To rebuild human civilization, the underground ark formed many exploration teams and sent them to the surface to search for traces of what humanity had left behind, hoping to recreate the prosperity of the old world. But the surface was covered by an unknown corrosive energy. Anyone whose constitution was not up to standard would be rapidly corroded by the energy and mutate into a monster. Every member of an exploration team swore an oath upon accepting a mission: they would trade their lives for a new beginning for all humanity. As soon as Tan Xingyi graduated from school, she applied to join an exploration team. As was customary, she had to undergo a physical examination to test her resistance to the corrosive energy. The higher her resistance index, the better she could withstand the surface energy, and the more qualified she would be as an explorer. The day her test results came in, the doctor held the report in both trembling hands and nearly had a heart attack. The report showed: "Tan Xing, corrosion resistance index: 100%." With our flesh and blood, we will rebuild the lighthouse of civilization. In the boundless darkness, the silent bodies of the pioneers stand along the road, becoming beacons for you to follow. Theme: As long as hope remains, civilization can rise again from the ashes
