The white-haired boy feels no pain and cannot see any colors. A breeze flowing in through the window lifts his soft hair, and he too is like an endless wind, transparent and impossible to grasp.

A crazed smile flashes in the man’s cold gray eyes. The powerful monster bred by the organization conceals its claws beneath a flawless, ageless exterior, waiting for the moment to devour its prey.

His former companions are now only gravestones. A once-fearless hero is trapped by a wheelchair and old injuries. The detective next door and a certain ace are both his former selves, and his hope. His senior, intent on dying, only melts away like summer rain, burning up the last glimmer of his life.

The outer district where Fu Tu is stationed is a beginner area, a ghost town that players have ignored since the beta test began. The environment is harsh, and scrap is scattered everywhere.

Mechanical designer Fu Tu looks at the desolate outer city, the materials littering the ground, and his enormous workshop. His eyes light up.

No need to socialize or go outside. He can stay home every day and design machines with the most cutting-edge equipment. He can even control mechanical bodies to run errands, shop, and take care of business…

What a deal!

The full-dive game “Legacy of the Old Capital” launches on every platform. Players from around the world flood in, only to be slaughtered to the last.

The rulers and the conglomerates collude, while the aristocracy and its factions monopolize power.

Half-mechanical life forms struggle to survive in the lower districts, held back by acid rain, toxic pollution, disease, and poverty.

Within three days of launch, posts complaining that the developers had made the game so realistic they must be inhuman filled thousands of pages on the forums.

Then, as players explored, they discovered an NPC whose identity was a mystery, appearing in every quest chapter:

The repairman with metal plates covering his eyes appears at the thirteenth passageway on rainy days. His fee is only one Blackwater Flower, a common sight throughout the inner city.

His body beneath his clothes is horribly damaged. He has even pried off his own valuable outer shell to use as medicine.

The mercenary who uses his own body as a weapon is taciturn. As long as you stay by his side, no aberrant creatures will attack you.

He ignites his mechanical heart to become a beacon tower, drawing away the black insects breeding in the millions of gallons of wastewater.

The hacker confined to a wheelchair is arrogant and sharp-tongued. If you need his help, you’ll have to beg and beg with sweets.

He connects his precise brain to the tower’s control system and breaks through its programming, opening the only route for players to reach the central city.

Clerics, gunsmiths, artists…

Until the victorious finale, they are companions players can trust without reservation, and the last glimmers of hope from the apocalypse, breaking through the old world’s prison with their bodies in every chapter.

On the day the final battle ends, a gameplay video shoots to the top of the charts and stays there for days:

Beneath the abandoned beginner-area outer district, jagged rock formations stretch through endless caverns.

A colossal statue, half-covered in machinery, collapses with a crash. Its gaze is serene, and the broken plaster on its cheek looks like tears.

The characters who fought alongside the players sleep clustered around the statue. Beneath their ruined limbs, severed wires spark with light and metal glints.

The figure often seen in the beginner area removes his heavy gas mask for the first time. A mole beneath his eye stands out red against his pale skin.

Fu Tu sits atop the statue, carefully fitting pulsing mechanical organs into the ruined body before him.

He remains forever in the heavily polluted outer city, helping millions of players and showing them the way out.

He has always been the savior who gave life to his mechanical companions, the silent dawn that led players toward a new world.
