Beta tester Fu Tu is transported into the game Legacy of the Old Capital, where he becomes an NPC in the beginner zone.
In the cyberpunk game Legacy of the Old Capital, players take on the role of a partly mechanical life-form abandoned in the outskirts of a ruined city. They head toward the central city together, seeking to uncover its hidden secrets.
The beginner-zone outskirts where Fu Tu lives are a ghost town, forgotten by players ever since beta testing began due to the harsh environment and heaps of scrap.
Mechanical designer Fu Tu gazes at the desolate outer city, the materials scattered everywhere, and his enormous mechanical workshop. His eyes light up.
No need to socialize or go outside. He can spend every day at home designing machines with state-of-the-art equipment, and control mechanical bodies to run errands and shop for him...
There's a deal like this?
The full-dive game Legacy of the Old Capital launches on every platform, and players from around the world flood in, only to be slaughtered to the last.
The ruling powers and the conglomerates collude, while the nobility and their factions monopolize the social order.
Half-mechanical life-forms struggle to survive in the lower city, their steps hampered by acid rain, toxic pollution, disease, and poverty.
Three days after launch, the game forum is flooded with posts lamenting that the developers made the game so realistic they must have no hearts. The threads grow to tens of thousands of replies.
Then, as players explore, they discover an NPC of mysterious identity appearing in every quest chapter:
A repairman with metal plates covering his eyes appears at the thirteenth passageway on rainy days. His fee is just one blackwater flower, a plant found all over the inner city.
His body beneath his clothes is in ruins, and he has personally pried off his precious-material shell to use as medicine.
A mercenary who uses his own body as a weapon is a man of few words. By his side, players are never bothered by aberrant creatures.
He sets his own mechanical heart alight, turning himself into a beacon tower and drawing away the black insects breeding in the thousands of pools of wastewater.
A haughty, sharp-tongued hacker confined to a wheelchair makes players beg him for help with sweets.
He connects his precision-engineered brain to a tower's control system and breaks through its programming, opening the only path for players to reach the central city.
A cleric, a gunsmith, an artist...
Before the final victory arrives, they are companions players can trust without reservation, the last glimmers of light in the apocalypse, breaking through the prison of the old world with their own bodies in every chapter.
On the day the final battle ends, a gameplay video rockets to the top of the trending charts and stays there for days:
[Hidden depths beneath the beginner-zone outer city! The little-known underground map, the final fate of every mechanical hero, Fu Tu's true identity? This is the real Legacy of the Old Capital!]
Beneath the abandoned earth of the beginner-zone outskirts, a sprawling cavern is filled with jagged rocks.
A colossal statue, half covered in machinery, crashes to the ground. Its gaze is serene, and broken plaster on its cheek looks like tears.
The characters who fought alongside the players sleep huddled around the statue. Beneath their ruined limbs, severed wires flicker with starlight and metal glints in the dark.
For the first time, the figure so often seen in the beginner zone removes his heavy gas mask. A mole beneath his eye stands out red against his pale skin.
Sitting atop the statue, Fu Tu carefully installs a set of twitching mechanical organs into the ruined body before him.
He remains forever stationed in the heavily polluted outer city, offering aid to millions of players and showing them the way out.
He has always been the savior who gives life to his mechanical companions, the quiet glimmer of dawn guiding players toward a new world.
