After an Alien God Courted Me

Monica used up all the luck of her life when she was selected as a pioneer for the new-planet colonization program. Unknown planets were full of unclaimed resources. The lucky first arrivals could later become real estate tycoons, gem collectors, or famous authors who made a fortune writing their memoirs. But when Monica woke again, her rusted cryogenic pod had crumbled into cookie crumbs, and her breathing was being sustained by a suspicious puddle of slime. She was inside the grand, palace-sized nest of an alien creature, with a mountain of multicolored jewels beneath her feet. This was a terrifying creature known only from space horror stories, building a nest to court a female. Now enormous tentacles slithered toward their waking "bride" with a wet, squelching sound. Monica decided that perhaps it would be better to end her own life. Years later The leader of an extraterrestrial civilization seeking diplomatic relations with humanity was a handsome man, as beautiful as a god. The human leaders were terrified. Everyone knew this was merely the alien god's assumed form. If the god's consort weren't a human woman, a bleeding heart who couldn't bear to see her own kind slaughtered and enslaved, Earth would long since have become a breeding nest for the gods. Some people thought that since the alien god favored human women, they should send him a few more. But the agents sent to him never returned, and not a trace of them remained. That night, the alien god was stopped by the cold bedroom door and could only poke his tentacles through the ventilation duct. Sensing Monica's furious glare, eyes of dark gold blossomed at the ends of his limbs and blinked at her plaintively. "Darling, even if you don't want to bear children on this planet, you can't be so cruel as to make me sleep in the living room, can you?"
