In the year 5322 of the Star Calendar, Lin Man woke from her hibernation pod. Before she could figure out what was going on, she was dressed up and sent to a victory banquet.
The war against the insectoid invasion had just ended. The guest of honor was Lin Man's own fiance, a young and handsome war hero named Aierxilike, though she had no idea where he had come from.
To avoid being affected by the insectoids' psychic broadcasts on the battlefield, frontline soldiers had to undergo surgery to remove all their emotions, transforming them into fearless war machines that would never retreat.
The operation was irreversible. To allay citizens' fears and help soldiers reintegrate into normal life, the Federation's top officials decided to put on a show:
Lin Man had to marry her fiance. Even if it was all an act, they had to make their marriage look happy.
Lin Man had no choice.
As they spent time together against her will, Lin Man discovered that her fiance was cold and taciturn, yet so fiercely protective that it bordered on the pathological.
Of course, Lin Man was no less troubled. She often found herself trapped in deep dreams where monsters pursued her without end, along with the ever-present delusion that she was being watched.
One day, the two went out together and were suddenly attacked by assailants. At the last possible moment, her fiance took a bullet for her, only for his skin to melt and fall apart, revealing a powerful monster beyond the comprehension of ordinary citizens.
It was a mighty predator that fed on the insectoids. Their engagement was no act. It had been planned long ago. This was a reunion after a long separation, all so Lin Man would accept its courtship. It had restrained its claws and awkwardly donned a disguise to pretend to be one of her kind.
Its senses were not limited to its eyes. Its skin and the fine tendrils it extended could sense the world, too. All this time, it had been greedily watching, smelling, touching, and licking its fiancee.
Now that its disguise was torn away, it had no intention of postponing the wedding.
She liked lake-blue eyes, and it had plenty of them. She had once praised its gorgeous, colorful shell, and it could peel off a piece to give her.
Lin Man would accept it.
Tips:
A sweet romance with a nonhuman love interest.
The male lead lacks common sense and is bad at expressing himself. The heroine isn't normal either. At heart, they're both seriously unwell, but their love is mutual.
The heroine doesn't actually need anyone to protect her, but the male lead is happy to do it.
Theme: Though love may be separated by mountains and seas, even mountains and seas can be overcome.
