Northeast China: The Dragon Emerges from the Mountains

In the winter of 1985, He Jiaolong, a guard at the Harbin Steelworks, went from being a “model factory protector” to a prisoner overnight.

It was all because he caught a thief he shouldn’t have caught and offended people he shouldn’t have crossed. The cold steel cable smashed his ribs and shattered his faith in justice. His superiors’ teacups were steeped in compromise, the police station’s records were filled with helplessness, and even his family urged him to “take a step back.”

But he couldn’t.

He was descended from mountain hunters, with a wolf’s grudge and fierce solitude carved into his bones. When the gang boss Qiang Ge pressed a gun to his forehead, and blood-red paint was splashed across his family’s door, the eighteen-year-old finally understood: by the laws of this steel jungle, you either kneel and eat dirt, or stand up and tear out your enemy’s throat.

He chose the latter.

From the steelworks to gambling dens, from the streets to prison, He Jiaolong was like a lone wolf driven from the mountains, blazing a bloodstained path across the harsh, frozen plains of the Northeast in the 1980s. During four years behind bars, he broke the prison bullies, found a master and learned his trade, and made lifelong friends. In the darkest depths of human nature, he forged himself into a man of steel and learned to see through the ways of the underworld.

This is not a story about a man becoming king of the underworld.

It is an epic about a young man crushed by the tide of his times, who picked up his broken bones from the ruins and forged himself into a man. In an era woven from steel, snow, and hot blood, he faced not only open threats and drawn weapons, but also the tangled web of competing interests and the treachery of human hearts that defined his time.

Snow falls in silence, while wolves howl with defiance.

When a dragon and a tiger are driven from the mountains, they must either die or... become the new kings of the city.
