The Legend of Mei Chaofeng

During the Southern Song dynasty, fisherman's daughter Mei Ruohua refuses to become a concubine, so Huang Yaoshi takes her to Peach Blossom Island and gives her the name Chao Feng. She and her third senior, Chen Xuanfeng, secretly fall in love, but Feng Heng frames them for an affair and stealing a manual, and they are expelled from their sect. The two mistakenly practice a counterfeit copy of the Nine Yin Manual and roam the martial world as the Black Wind Twin Fiends, becoming twisted in body and spirit through their killings. Chen Xuanfeng dies at Guo Jing's hands while protecting Mei Chaofeng. After losing her sight, Mei Chaofeng endures the feuds of the martial world and eventually uncovers Feng Heng's plot. After the final battle at Return to the Ruins Cliff, she lets go of her hatred, only to lose her life at Ouyang Feng's hands while saving Huang Yaoshi at the Misty Rain Tower. With a realistic touch, the novel traces her tragic transformation from a fisherman's daughter into a female fiend, weaving together bonds between master and disciple, vendettas in the martial world, and the fickleness of fate to reveal its bloody violence and the struggle of human nature.
