Blade Flash, Shadow Veil: Secrets of the Western Depot

Set in the mid-Ming dynasty, The West Depot's Hidden Affairs: Blades and Shadows follows Lu Zheng, a West Depot guard, on his path to revenge. Ten years ago, his father was executed along with his entire family for impeaching the powerful eunuch Wang Zhen. Lu Zheng narrowly escaped death and has lain low within the West Depot, waiting for a chance to clear his father's name.

Dark currents surge through the imperial court. Wang Zhen colludes with his allies and secretly conspires with the Oirat, diverting river works funds to buy warhorses and handing over defense maps as part of a treasonous plot. Countless loyal officials have died at his hands. With ruthless skill and keen insight, Lu Zheng pursues the truth step by step through the bloody Imperial Prison and the treacherous streets: from wronged bones in a dry well to charred corpses in a granary, from secret messages written on human skin to lotus-guard tattoos. The clues converge on a shocking conspiracy.

The arrival of Su Wanqing, daughter of the Prefect of Huai'an, entangles this revenge plot with love and hatred. Forced to go undercover to save her family, she gradually falls for Lu Zheng amid flashing blades and crossing shadows. At times they face each other with suspicion; at others, they risk their lives to protect one another, clinging to a faint glimmer of humanity amid the struggle for power.

When the defense maps and records of treason begin to surface, Lu Zheng discovers that the game is far more complicated than he imagined: the empress and the crown prince's tutor are both deeply involved, and everyone commits shameful acts in the name of "justice." In the end, he holds proof capable of overturning the court, but must choose between revenge and conscience, survival and destruction. The truth hidden in the play of blades and shadows has long been stained with blood, blurring the line between right and wrong.
