Qin Shi Pass

Qin Pass is set against the historical backdrop of the late Warring States period through the reign of Qin Er Shi. Centered on the great passes of the realm, including Hangu Pass, Wu Pass, and Yanmen Pass, it spans decades of upheaval: Qin’s conquest of the six states, the unification of the realm, the unraveling of Qin rule, and the return of war. Rather than focusing solely on power struggles among emperors and their court, the story unfolds at frontier strongholds, weaving together the fates of Qin soldiers, survivors of the six states, righteous martial heroes, scions of noble families, and borderland commoners. Through the battles, defenses, falls, and rebirths of one mighty pass after another, it reflects the transformation of an entire age. From King Zheng of Qin taking the reins of power, reorganizing the army, and launching the campaign of unification, to the successive destruction of the six states and the founding of the unified Qin Empire; from the grand vision of roads stretching across the realm, campaigns against the Xiongnu in the north, and expeditions against the Baiyue in the south, to harsh laws, crushing labor service, and widespread popular resentment; then, as rebellion ignites at Daze Village and heroes rise across the land, the great passes once more become battlefields. With the pass as its soul and people as its backbone, the novel portrays family and country, loyalty and righteousness, love and hatred, choices and struggles amid chaos, painting a sweeping historical tableau of ordinary people and heroes alike swept up in an age of great change.

After six generations of consolidation, by the time King Zheng took power, Qin commanded the fertile lands of Guanzhong and fielded an army that dwarfed all others. The six states of Han, Zhao, Wei, Chu, Yan, and Qi were barely holding on. Some joined forces against the stronger state, while others remained mired in internal conflict. The land was shattered, and border fires had burned without cease for years. Hangu Pass, Qin’s foremost gateway to the east, connected the Qin heartland to the west with the Central Plains to the east and held the key to the balance of power. Wu Pass guarded the route into Jingchu, linking Qin and Chu. In the north, Yan
