The Awakening of the Mystic Dragon: Chronicles of the Western Regions

The Awakening of the Mystic Dragon: Chronicles of War in the Western Regions After the ancient war between immortals and demons, the essence of a divine dragon, gravely wounded, fled into a secret realm within the Western Regions’ dragon veins and slept for eighty thousand years. Absorbing the spiritual energy of heaven and earth, it cultivated peerless powers that united immortal arts and martial prowess. During the Zhenguan era of the Tang dynasty, Li Jian, younger brother of the Turkic khagan, led an army of one hundred thousand south to invade, burning, looting, and wreaking havoc along the frontier. He harassed the Cloud Goddess on a sacred mountain, angering the Thunder God. The Thunder God summoned a bolt of lightning to kill Li Jian, but instead shattered the seal on the dragon veins and awakened the dragon’s essence. Seeing the people suffer, the divine dragon stepped forward to end the war. Li Jian joined forces with Turkic masters to wage a three-year battle against it, as immortal arts and the dragon’s might surged and war spread throughout the Western Regions. While fighting the Turkic army, the dragon befriended Xia Mei, sister of the king of the Western Regions, and united the forces of resistance. It also assumed the guise of a hermit to aid Su Dingfang in his western campaign. The Thunder God and Cloud Goddess lent their support as well. In the end, Li Jian’s schemes were thwarted and the main Turkic forces were annihilated. The dragon helped the Tang army extend its territory to the Amu Darya in Central Asia, securing the Tang dynasty’s borders in the Western Regions. After its mission was accomplished, it faded into the shadows, quietly protecting the people and continuing its immortal martial legend.
