The Immortal-Slaying Chronicles

For ten thousand years, immortals and demons have stood side by side across the vast lands of Shenzhou, separated by the Nine Heavens Barrier. The Immortal Realm above commands pure, clear immortal energy; the Demon Realm below is entrenched in heavy, impure demonic energy; and mortals eke out their lives between the two. Those born with spiritual roots may embark on the path of cultivation, joining an immortal sect or falling into demonic ways. A thousand years ago, the Demon Realm’s supreme ruler, the Profound Night Demon Lord, used his own demonic essence in an attempt to tear open the Nine Heavens Barrier, invade the Immortal Realm, and seize control of the Three Realms. The seven great immortal sects joined forces to oppose him. At the cost of three Immortal Venerables, they sealed him in the Demonfall Abyss and entrusted the sealing key, the Demon-Suppressing Jade Talisman, to the seven sects in turn.

A thousand years later, the seal weakened with the passage of time, and demonic energy leaked from the Demonfall Abyss. Monsters ran amok in many parts of the mortal world, leaving lives in ruins. The Qinglan Sect, currently entrusted with the Demon-Suppressing Jade Talisman, was attacked by an unknown force. The talisman was stolen, and Sect Leader Ling Yunxiao was left gravely wounded and near death. Just then, Ye Qingyu, an outer sect disciple of Qinglan, stood out in the sect’s grand tournament, yet his humble origins and mixed spiritual roots meant the sect had never taken him seriously. During the attack, Ye Qingyu unexpectedly awakened the ancient Immortal-Slaying bloodline dormant within him and drove off a demon assassin. As he lay dying, Ling Yunxiao entrusted him with the mission of recovering the talisman and reinforcing the seal, and gave him Qinglan Sect’s treasured heirloom: half of a broken Immortal-Slaying Sword.
