The Overworked Mage Just Wants to Retire [Western Crossover]

Sorin is the most ordinary wage slave in Gotham City.

Gotham is full of vigilantes and villains, but he's so ordinary that he'd be forgettable in any city. He's not even an extra, just a worker ant in a superhero universe.

His biggest headache: Why can't his damn boss, damn coworkers, and damn villains just blow up their damn workplace?

His greatest dream: Save enough money to retire early.

Then one day, he dragged his ragged body home, and a glowing orb floated in front of him.

Orb: “Lucky one! Congratulations...”

Sorin: “Get lost.”

Orb: “...You've been chosen by the sun.”

Sorin: “Get lost. Now.”

Orb: “As long as you complete these missions...”

Sorin: “Keep talking and I'll kill myself right now.”

Orb: “...you can become the greatest mage on Earth!”

Sorin: (pulls out a knife) “I'm counting to three.”

Orb: “If you don't agree, I'll kill myself too!”

Orb: “...”

Sorin: “...”

In the end, after a friendly negotiation along the lines of “If you don't agree, I'll kill myself,” the two reached a preliminary agreement to work together.

Mission Log

Mission One: Create a secret identity.

Sorin waved a hand and designed a mysterious, impossibly cool secret identity.

It's only thirteen years old.

Orb: “Fine, you made the body younger, but why are you so good at acting cute?!”

Mission Two: Join any superhero organization.

Sorin quickly filled out an application for Young Justice and, thanks to his age, managed to become a reserve member who might not get a mission for six months.

Sorin: “Damn, they still make you go on missions... I should've set the age even lower!”

Mission N: Build Batman a healing center.

Bruce gracefully handed him a long list of requirements and a budget of fifty million dollars.

Sorin, about to make a run for it, instantly gained a clear and innocent look in his eyes: “Boss, just a moment. I'll go hand in my resignation now!”

P.S.

1. I have no idea what I'm writing. The inspiration came from an author whose mental state had become spectacularly beautiful after being tortured by work. The protagonist's mental state changes along with the author's.

2. The length is undecided. This is just a venting project, and I'll update it one episodic arc at a time.

3. Any out-of-character moments are on me.

Theme: No matter how difficult life gets, never lose hope
