At first, Jason thought anyone who moved into Crime Alley to open a shop had to be a little crazy.

But this family had a father backed by [Truth], an older sister whose truck had hauled plenty of bodies, and a little girl so optimistic she had no idea how terrifying Gotham could be.

When Jason was hiding under the table and met Joyce's eyes, the first thing she said was, "You're actually a person? Like, a real one?"

Some time after Joyce and Jason became friends, Jason was adopted. Joyce protested vehemently. "I'm going to compete with you! I have the right to adopt Jason too!"

Jason, unconvinced but understanding: "Please present your campaign statements."

After Jason left, Joyce joined a mysterious organization. Because she had accidentally hurt too many people, she was sent overseas.

When she returned to Gotham, she was ordered to keep an eye on Red Hood, who was taking on one opponent after another in the East End. Honestly, with several years of undercover experience, Joyce's black bodysuit practically blended into the darkness. Not one of her targets had survived long enough to spot her, except...

A choking grip pressed into her neck. A hoarse, distorted voice sounded in her ear. "Now tell me what you've been following me around for all these days."

Joyce kicked backward and ran for her life. A dart struck her shoulder. He was fast, and it took him hardly any effort to remove her mask.

"Now that I've caught you, you're..." Red Hood stepped back a few paces in disbelief.

"Don't get too excited. Next time, I'll put a dart through your heart."
