Kong Shiyu, a former Korean detective, now works as a fixer, mainly serving as an intermediary for curse users, assassins, and mercenaries. He's good at gathering information and providing logistical support.
He considers himself an ordinary middle-aged man, but his partner is anything but ordinary: none other than Fushiguro Toji, known as the "Sorcerer Killer."
Then one day, everything changed!
After a night of chaos, he was latched onto by something claiming to be a System, which also told him he had a terminal illness.
After putting it to the test, he got good news: the System was real. He wasn't hallucinating because he was cursed or losing his mind.
The bad news was that the brain tumor was real too.
Faced with the temptation of his thousand-year-old boss, Kenjaku:
"Little Kong, you're sick? Oh, that's fine. Hand Toji the job of assassinating the Star Plasma Vessel, and I'll cure you... Don't worry, I just want to make sure the mission succeeds. I'm not asking you to betray your partner."
"Nothing will happen."
Kong Shiyu had been spoiled by the System that Toji would die because of this mission. He lit a cigarette and silently asked the thing claiming to be a "manga forum" System:
"So, besides popularity, can I exchange plot deviation points for all kinds of things, including a cure?"
He's a scumbag, and if he had to choose between his own life and Toji's, he'd definitely choose his own.
But if possible, Kong Shiyu would rather everyone survive.
After all, that's what middle-aged men are like: ground down by reality until all their edges are smooth, they just want a happy ending for everyone.
There's just one problem. If he ruins Kenjaku's plans, he might retaliate. Even if Kong Shiyu gets cured, he could still be killed.
He doesn't plan to save himself with popularity points, mainly because he thinks nobody would like a merely decent-looking, worn-out middle-aged man like him. So Kong Shiyu needs more plot deviation points to grow stronger.
He needs to get his hands on a life-saving technique, at the very least!
But what exactly should he do?
Thinking it over, Kong Shiyu ran into a spiky-haired kid on his way home who looked exactly like his partner and occasional bedmate.
"Ah, I've got it."
Kong Shiyu had once sworn that, apart from work and going to hell together, he would never get involved with Toji.
But what's done is done... Toji's son is a popular character in the main plot, right?
"Your name's Megumi, right? I remember you have an older sister, too."
Under the child's wary gaze, Kong Shiyu put out his cigarette, smiled with a weary air, then crouched down and said:
"I'm a friend of your father's. He asked me to look after you."
Content warnings:
1. Although there's a manga forum, there will be a lot of child-rearing, and the protagonist won't appear in the manga's events very often.
2. Fushiguro Toji x Kong Shiyu, friends with benefits from the start. Caution for readers who are particular about purity! There will be plenty of morbid jokes and scenes where two scumbags hit each other where it hurts.
