A Detective in Beika, Carried by Little Animals

It was raining on the first day San Chun Xuehui returned to Mihua Town. On the roadside, he found a white-haired puppy with purple eyes, just as drenched as he was.

That night, San Chun Xuehui came down with a high fever. Through the haze, he saw the puppy he'd brought home trying its hardest to unlock his phone with its paws.

San Chun Xuehui: Am I hallucinating because the fever's fried my brain?

Later, the rookie detective could often be seen being dragged around Mihua Town by a fluffy puppy.

A traffic officer who wished to remain anonymous: So, can I give a speeding ticket to a dog?

It was raining again. The purple-eyed puppy, now a bit bigger, came from who-knows-where with a curly-haired black cat in its mouth, looking at him expectantly.

So San Chun Xuehui adopted the black kitten. One day, he woke up to find the puppy and cat in the middle of taking his beat-up car apart and putting it back together, in a rather clumsy fashion.

San Chun Xuehui: ?

Another familiar rainy day. Dragged and shoved into an alley, San Chun Xuehui found yet another animal: a blue-eyed white rabbit with an injured belly.

One day, when he saw the white rabbit he'd found in the kitchen, San Chun Xuehui was already adept at pulling out his phone and posting another brag on the pet-lovers' forum.

[Does anyone get it? I woke up to find my bunny had made three dishes and a soup]

After the third new member joined the household, the only real problem was room assignments: four people, three bedrooms, and one living room.

“I can sleep on the sofa.” The later-arriving Morofushi Hiromitsu didn't have any particular requirements for his sleeping arrangements.

“Wouldn't it be wrong to make Master Hiromitsu sleep on the sofa?” Matsuda said slowly, pointing at San Chun Xuehui. “You two can take the guest rooms. I'll share a room with this guy.”

At that, everyone present except Matsuda slowly formed a question mark.

“Seriously, Matsuda? You've just naturally assumed the role of the homeowner?” Hagiwara Kenji looked about ready to lose it. “More importantly, why are you making a question mark too, San Chun?”

A few reading tips:

* Oblivious protagonist vs. straightforward Matsuda

* The protagonist is purely on the side of justice, with no System or secret identity

* Everyone else is strictly platonic
