Qin Qiu transmigrated into a melodramatic, angst-filled novel and had to follow the System's instructions, playing a rich young cannon fodder who pursued the protagonist.
The original plot was too idiotic to watch, and the person Qin Qiu truly liked wasn't the protagonist anyway. Luckily, he only had to hold out until the protagonist went abroad. After that, the plot had nothing to do with him.
More than ten years after Qin Qiu completed his mission, the System, which should have disappeared, found him again and demanded that he resume pursuing the protagonist after his return home.
Qin Qiu wasn't having it. He'd already reached his happily-ever-after with his beloved. Was this lousy world so short on people that it had to bring a retired cannon fodder out of retirement?
Unfortunately, the System threatened to erase him if he didn't follow the plot. Qin Qiu had no choice but to accept his fate and keep playing the stooge.
Qin Qiu's "pursuit" was halfhearted. Flowers were sent by delivery, his secretary sent the texts, and he even stood up his date at the dramatic love triangle.
Qin Qiu took every precaution to avoid suspicion, but his strange behavior over the past few days still caught his beloved's attention. Shen Ruoci quickly learned the protagonist had returned, then quietly packed his bags.
When Qin Qiu saw Shen Ruoci getting ready to leave, his world nearly collapsed. "Darling, let me explain..."
Shen Ruoci's eyes brimmed with tears as he said, sorrowful yet resolute, "Qin Qiu, I don't want to be his substitute anymore."
Qin Qiu: "...Huh?"
What substitute? Are we doing an angst drama now, too?

Shen Ruoci had always known Qin Qiu had settled for him as his second choice.
He had seen how Qin Qiu looked when he was truly in love with someone. He had seen thousands of roses arranged into a heart. It was tacky, but it was the kind of romance Shen Ruoci hadn't received in more than a decade of marriage.
Shen Ruoci went from hopeful to disillusioned, and was eventually forced to accept that Qin Qiu didn't love him.
Now that Qin Qiu's first love had returned, and the two were rekindling their old relationship, Shen Ruoci knew it was time for him to leave. So he promptly filed for divorce, asked for nothing, and prepared to disappear.
But Qin Qiu forcibly confiscated his luggage, stole his ID card, and even froze all the money in his accounts. Qin Qiu had anticipated everything he might do to leave, blocking every possible way out.
...Don't pretend to be devoted. This is just possessiveness talking.
Shen Ruoci wouldn't listen to Qin Qiu's excuses. In the middle of their argument, he lost his reason and jumped straight off the cruise ship.
When he woke again, he found himself tied to a bed in a basement. The instruments around him were recording every change in real time, and he could no longer escape.
Qin Qiu stood half a meter from the bed and smiled ominously. "Still trying to run?"
It's just a melodramatic novel. A little forced love can't hurt, right?
Today, he's going to cure Shen Ruoci's nasty habit of refusing to listen and keeping his mouth shut!
