After retiring at 26, Aoki Kawa was given plenty of labels. He wasn't ashamed of them at all; in fact, he thought they fit perfectly.

Unkempt and never without cigarettes or alcohol, he tends his grandma's corner shop, single-handedly driving its sales to rock bottom until it can barely stay afloat.

Just as he's wondering if he should find a job to support himself, someone shows up.

"Aoki, come coach at Inarizaki."

In the sweltering summer heat, drowsiness and the drone of cicadas go hand in hand.

Aoki Kawa stares at the visitor through drooping eyelids for three seconds, then yawns.

Muttering to himself, he lies back down in his rickety old chair.
