Question: What should you do if one day you realize that everyone around you is more than ordinary?
Hello.
My name is Kuno Chizuru, and I came up with the question above.
I was a recent college graduate who applied for jobs and ended up getting recruited by the Earth Defense Force.
I have no combat skills, just a brain. Well, a clever brain.
My captain, Gent, is a particularly mature and levelheaded man. He's perfectly normal, except that whenever a monster appears, he disappears along with the other team members.
By the way, can a single restroom really fit more than a dozen people?
Every time they say they're going to the restroom, I have to stop myself from laughing. Going to the bathroom is fine, but when there are so many of them, it's weird.
As for the monsters, it all began on the day I joined the Defense Force. It was a beautiful, sunny day. Well, never mind. The weather's hardly ever been nice.
Anyway, I was stunned when I saw a monster, but thrilled when I saw the fighter jets. After all, what kid hasn't dreamed of flying one?
Even though now I'm a wage slave with no dreams, just a desire to coast through life.
I forgot to mention that when I found out I wasn't allowed to fly a fighter jet, I was disappointed.
I'm also pretty curious about why all my teammates seem to have personalities stamped from the same mold.
I have to admit, their enthusiasm for work is on a level I could never reach.
"Hikaru Raido! You wrecked another fighter jet!"
"Daichi, this isn't something you can study! It's going to explode!"
"Boom!"
I feel more like a nagging mom, I thought ruefully, while sending Riku Asakura off to do his homework.
Seriously, why does the Defense Force recruit minors? (Not really.)
After working there for a while, I came up with a rule of thumb: every time a fighter jet gets blown up, an Ultraman shows up.
Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to pilot one. Okay, I'll admit it. I'm more upset because I researched and built every single fighter jet myself.
With Ultraman showing up in shifts every day, I can't help wondering if I really came here to retire.
After many days, the Defense Force welcomed a new member. Great, now I have a new junior to mess with.
Every time a new recruit arrives, a new monster appears too. At a corner, I ran into Yuma, who was holding something that looked rather familiar.
He was panicking, but I stayed perfectly calm. It wasn't the first time I'd seen one of these "toys," after all.
While Yuma watched, I took out a packet of tea leaves and peacefully sipped my tea as his expression grew more and more confused.
"Don't worry. It's almost time."
Yuma tilted his head in confusion. Then a flash of light appeared, the BGM started playing, and Ultraman made a dazzling entrance.
"Oh, it's Zett today."
A little guide for readers:
1. The protagonist is just an ordinary person. (What do you mean, someone with technology like Hikari's is ordinary?)
2. The protagonist is a wage slave who radiates a faint aura of death and likes to make snarky comments. For now, all the Ultramen are from the New Generation.
3. OOC warning. Platonic relationships. The Defense Force is one big family.
