“The game is about to begin. All players, please get ready.”
Lothiel is a newly arisen Aeon, one that no one pays any attention to.
Unlike the other Aeons, Lothiel is not renowned, and has neither followers nor those who walk its Path.
Its birth was supposedly an accident, but even so, it refuses to lose heart and vows to find at least ten followers.
Some time later, Lothiel says: One follower is enough (please, I'm begging you!)
By chance, it gets swept into a strange space. As a rookie Aeon, it can't display even a hint of power.
It's sad, really. The kind-hearted always get picked on.
With a “ding,” more than a dozen red moons appear in the space, radiating an eerie feeling.
“Dear player, welcome to the Aeon Role-Playing Game. Please complete your assigned objective within the time limit.”
“Winners will receive the chance to reach the top of the Imaginary Tree.”
Come on, that's a chance to leap straight to the top without having to climb!
Damn it, he's tempted. His hand moves faster than his brain, and he signs electronically.
One. [Erudition]
The Aeon who knows all things and is aware of everything in the world.
It knows what you want to ask before you even ask.
Unfortunately, Lothiel is more like a person pretending to be a machine than a wise mechanical being. It can only repeat a string of meaningless words.
After all, that's the only answer he could think of.
Upon getting this result, Herta frowns and says outright in front of him, “Is this big mechanical head broken or something? Can it even be repaired?”
“Mechanical. Gaa gaa.”
Before Nous's consciousness kicks him out, Lothiel really wants to glance at Stelle, who is rummaging through a trash can. He really wants to know what this Trailblazer is thinking.
Two. [Abundance]
If you'd also been transmigrated and immediately found yourself being hunted down, nearly skewered by an arrow that missed you by just 0.01 millimeters, you'd feel sorry for me too, right!
Having just wrapped up his last job, Lothiel starts playing the role of Yaoshi with a score of minus two. The moment he opens his eyes, he sees Lan, the Aeon of the Hunt, staring at him menacingly.
“Hey, I'll spin and jump, then do a three-hundred-and-sixty-degree backflip for no apparent reason.”
Watching Yaoshi bounce around like someone who'd been poisoned by Soda Bean Juice, Lan begins to wonder if he's hunting the wrong target.
See? He even doubts himself before suspecting that Yaoshi has been replaced. I'm seriously crying.
The consciousness of Yaoshi gently separates from him, then lands on the ground with a splat.
Ah, damn, that hurts.
[Aeon of Elation]
For Aha, increasingly convincing acting is just another source of amusement. The Aeon of Elation will never go out of character! (Probably not!)
Playing this role is easier than the others, and it eases Lothiel's anxiety. Everything is great, except having to hang out and play with that bunch of fools.
Just as the final bit of progress is about to be completed, he hears wild laughter. Someone who looks exactly like him appears before his eyes, or rather, the Aeon of Elation himself.
“You are Aha, and Aha is also Aha.”
“Two Ahas? Now that's fun.”
“Then could it be that Aha is the fake Aha?”
[ Aeon swear ] Why is the real one here too?!
A little reading guide:
This is a no-romance, silly, surreal story about secret identities, with some out-of-character moments. The role-playing also includes aspects of the protagonist's own personality. Before his identity as an Aeon is exposed, he can really let loose. He's especially absurd!!!
A mysterious Aha, an absurdity master, and a fun-loving troublemaker join forces.
Theme: For a better tomorrow.
