[DC] Under the Red Hood

The Red Hood appeared less and less often. Each time he went out, he spent less time in the field. He began cutting off all contact with Gotham’s vigilantes. Even Oracle couldn’t get a word out of him. That was what the Bats knew. The first symptom was trouble sleeping. Then he began losing his appetite and dropping weight. Now he would inexplicably lose his balance, and could barely hold a cup. The last time, Red Hood almost failed to clear a rooftop and nearly fell from a twenty-five-story building. Red Hood couldn’t let criminals discover his weakness, so he had no choice but to cut back on his patrols. That was what Jason knew. He could feel himself slowly dying. The Lazarus Pit was cursed. What it gave would one day be taken back. Jason knew, rationally, that he should ask for help, but he stayed silent. After all, Batman had made his opinion of Jason clear enough with a Batarang. The moment the explosion went off, Jason thought his second life was already over. He only hoped that this time he wouldn’t open his eyes in a cemetery again. He didn’t, of course. To recover from his injuries, Jason was forced to stay cooped up in the manor. It was only then that he gradually realized his family might not hate him as much as he had thought. Maybe Bruce cared about him more than he’d imagined. Maybe... they still had a chance to be a family again. Also known as: “How to Win Over Red Hood with Rehab, Travel, an Entire Book Club, and Lots and Lots of Books” A few things to know before reading: This is free and will not enter the paid section. There are some major angst-inducing twists, including a truly enormous one. I’m not kidding. But I’m also not kidding when I say that if you stick with it, you’ll find far more comfort than heartbreak. The story focuses on family bonds. Bruce is a very good father, and he and Jason work through one painful experience after another together. Theme: Love never ends.
