I'm About to Cry Little Pearls

"Childhood sweethearts are a bond earned in a past life."

More than six months after graduating, Huai Duo had been rejected everywhere she applied, and was starting to question her life.

When she had to choose between asking people for help and asking herself, she chose to ask the gods.

That night, a god appeared in Huai Duo's dream. To sum it up:

1. In her previous life, she was a jellyfish.

2. So water and wood are lucky for her, while fire and earth are unlucky.

3. Oh, and in her past life, she was a couple with a merman who cried pearls for her and helped her strike it rich.

The next day, Huai Duo told her childhood friend Pei Zhou about it.

Pei Zhou coolly remarked, "Sounds like he doesn't have anything else going for him if he has to rely on his wife to support him."

Huai Duo wasn't sure whether to believe what the god in her dream had said.

She moved to the coastal district, and actually lucked into a job.

The pay was decent, the work was easy, and the handsome male coworker she'd been paired with was also very kind.

Huai Duo suddenly remembered what the god in her dream had said: "That merman will bring you good fortune!"

Could it be...?

One day after work, Pei Zhou stopped Huai Duo outside her home.

He pinned her against the wall, his voice low and dejected. "...Who's that guy who walked you home?"

Huai Duo was trying to figure out how to reply without sounding too superstitious...

when something small and round hit her collarbone.

One, two...

Little pearls.

[Past Life Bonus Scene]

Duo: I want a pearl dress, please, please! *pretends to cry*

Zhou: I'll go find some for you.

Duo: *eating and pocketing them* No, the ones you cry are round and shiny. Oh, and weave me a bolt of mermaid silk to wear, too.

Zhou: ...
