A Spring Night Elopement [Secret Crush | I Like You]

Male unrequited love / stealing someone else's partner / a caged songbird escapes

● Gentle heiress × rising business tycoon

The most unconventional thing Bie Jingyue ever did was at her second meeting with Zhan Zhou.

She stepped out of the private room for some air. Turning the corner, she saw a man leaning against the window, glancing her way as the red tip between his long fingers glowed and faded.

He lowered his eyes indifferently, but she walked over to him.

"I remember you," Bie Jingyue said.

Zhan Zhou looked up. His narrow eyes were as dark as the night behind him.

Her fiance was entertaining guests in the private room just one wall away. They were supposed to get engaged next month.

Bie Jingyue asked softly, "Um, do you know somewhere I could go where no one would find me?"

"I do." Zhan Zhou turned his face aside and stubbed out his cigarette on the windowsill. "My hometown."

Bie Jingyue had not even had time to react.

"...In the countryside."

-

Bie Jingyue lay on the mountaintop, with Zhan Zhou's coat beneath her.

The night sky was filled with stars, and insects chirped softly. She had never seen so many stars.

She turned her head. At some point, Zhan Zhou had rolled up his sleeves and drawn every mosquito away from her.

"Do you remember when we first met?" Bie Jingyue smiled, lips pressed together. "Outside Song Yanli's office, he refused to let you in. The seam on your suit sleeve was coming apart, so you probably hadn't made it yet."

"I also heard you'd already been waiting for five hours. But I couldn't see the slightest sign of impatience or resentment on your face. You even reminded the assistant that the tips of the areca palm needed spraying."

"So even then, I thought you were probably a very good man."

Zhan Zhou said nothing, only smiled.

He remembered the first time he saw Bie Jingyue, at the foot of this very mountain. He was twelve, dressed in rags and shivering with cold.

But his heart had been burning hot.

"When I was young, I once said that meeting you was like crossing mountains and rivers to find the moon. When night fell and my heart was hurt, I could borrow a little moonlight from that day."
