Transparent Rain [Writing a Tragic Ending to Calm My Nerves]

[Bad ending, free to read as it serializes]

◆ Sensitive and gentle × Proud and wild

Unrequited love | School days | Around 100,000 words

A summer afternoon in the second year of high school.

A gale howled outside the classroom windows, and the camphor tree branches beat against the glass. I was working through a test in the stuffy, dim classroom, my mind in turmoil.

The person behind me suddenly tapped my shoulder and lowered his voice:

"Hey, do you know Yanchao likes you?"

My startled gaze passed over the shifting students in the classroom and met his dark eyes.

The world seemed to fall silent with a beep,

yet I could clearly hear the rain crashing down outside, its drops bouncing off the windows like the pounding notes of a symphony written by fate.

"When I first met you, the scorching summer heat seemed endless. I thought you were rain in a drought, rare and precious.

Only later, when I looked back through that endless downpour, did I suddenly realize

you are the rain that will soak me through for the rest of my life."

◎ Third-person narration, a school story set in a county town
