A crane's feathers are black and white, with a splash of red on its crown, like the reddest ruby.

This bird would be perfect for his business.

That was what Lance thought.

The black feathers were the business that had to stay hidden. The white feathers were the business that had to bring him glory.

His family flocked around him, becoming the ruby ring on his left ring finger.

*

Hermosa Lee.

The only daughter of Lance Lee, chairman of the European Iron Chain Alliance Group, and "that woman." She was spoiled and violent.

The one time she showed a rare fit of kindness was on a rainy night in late autumn 1950, in Paris, when she tossed a croissant she thought tasted awful to a homeless boy by the roadside.

From then on, he became her rival.

Or so she thought.

She watched as the boy inherited everything from her father, and became even more ruthless than him.

He indulged her every whim, like a shadow that followed her everywhere.

Hermosa hated shadows, because they never stood up to her.

*

Late autumn, Paris, still drenched in night rain.

The kick of her high heel to his chest still echoed with a deep, solid pain.

"What are you, anyway?"

The contemptuous words drifted down from above, spoken by "his dear little sister."

"Hermosa is the purest white feather."

Barry knelt before Hermosa. He could only remain silent, just as he had when he first received his name.

*I will support you, one step at a time.

I will watch you walk across the room, put on your crown, and stand beside your husband.

When all eyes are upon you, before God, only we will know that we love each other.

*For our shared glory.

*Ours is the greatest love in the world.
