-"We seem like monsters."

"We, we... should be the closest friends and companions in the world. We should stand together, like fingers lined up on a palm, gripping the same dagger, "

-"Aren't we standing together now?"

-"We shouldn't be lovers."

"Hmph." Huang Beiwang scoffed. He turned to look at Huang Xingran, then glanced back at the gravestone before them.

For only a second, his gaze was reverent.

The next second, he suddenly grabbed Huang Xingran's hand. No matter how flustered she got or how hard she tried to shake him off, he held on tight.

"Ancestor. This is my sister." Huang Beiwang smiled smugly. "She's also my girlfriend."

He said it loud and clear, before the silent gravestones and the flowers laid before them, amid the occasional bird calls in the quiet cemetery.

Huang Xingran was shocked. "What kind of crazy thing are you saying?!"

"I haven't even said anything crazier yet." Huang Beiwang ran his fingers over Huang Xingran's hand, lacing his fingers tightly between hers.

"Huang Xingran, I want to marry you."

-"I hate rainy days the most."

-"Why?"

Why?

Why?

That afternoon, the rain came suddenly, unannounced and uninvited. Just like the man who followed Huang Xingran home.

She said he was only her classmate.

So Huang Beiwang stood at the corner of the second-floor staircase, staring at the half-open door on the third floor.

The wind drove the rain in dense sheets against the glass in the stairwell. He turned his head to glance at the annoying rain, and when he looked back, the door had shut completely.
