After discovering that her boyfriend, Zhou Heyuan, was cheating, Meng Jialu had plenty of proper options, like breaking up with him right away and ending things cleanly. Yet she chose the very worst one.

After hockey practice, Meng Jialu walked into the locker room, turned the lock, and stared at the figure who had just finished showering.

He was Lu Zhengchuan, Zhou Heyuan's sworn enemy.

He couldn't stand Zhou Heyuan, and Zhou Heyuan couldn't stand him.

She couldn't stand him either.

Lu Zhengchuan, 1.91 meters tall, broad-shouldered and muscular, is the captain of the Tigers, a professional team in the O.M. hockey league. Toss aside his helmet and gloves, and he's ready to fight: an executioner as fierce as the team he's named for.

The first time Meng Jialu met Lu Zhengchuan, he was seated at the guest-of-honor's place in a private dining room at her family's restaurant, forcing her to apologize to the girl sitting beside him.

The round table was full, but no one dared say a word.

The girl, as delicate as a little white flower, sat pressed against him, sobbing. He soothed her softly, as though no one else were there.

"So a private room means you can't take pictures? Since when is that a rule?" Holding the tissue he'd used to wipe the girl's tears, Lu Zhengchuan glanced pointedly at Meng Jialu. "I can't stand rich young ladies like you picking on people."

It was just something he'd said offhand at the time, but later Lu Zhengchuan came to think that Meng Jialu really was good at picking on people.

She dragged him into this mess, then refused to take responsibility for him.

She annoyed him every day.

She annoyed him every day alongside Zhou Heyuan.

He was so furious he could feel the anger churning inside him.

And he couldn't even say anything.

Because whenever Meng Jialu got mad, she stopped talking to him.

After a game, the locker room gradually fell silent again.

Two sets of footsteps silently chased and tangled. A large hand grabbed Meng Jialu by the wrist and pinned her against a locker.

His towering frame cast a shadow over her. He gripped her chin and forced her face up.

Lu Zhengchuan lowered his head, pressing his cheek against hers.

"So what if Zhou Heyuan dated you? What does he have to brag about?" He leaned close to her ear, his voice full of gritted-teeth resentment. "I've slept with you. Has he? You don't see me showing off everywhere."

In the silence, a sharp smack rang out.

With his cheek burning, Lu Zhengchuan turned to look at Meng Jialu again.

"I've been slapped by you. Has he? What the hell does he have to brag about?"
