I Told You Not to Choose the Detective World for Retirement

This story is complete. Check out my upcoming story, My Workaholic Boss and Me. Its blurb is below this one. Blurb: Although I was the first task-taker to clear the Infinite World, with maxed-out combat stats and a reputation for being a formidable fighter, the truth was that I was sick to death of fighting. So when the Lord God asked me to choose a world for retirement, I picked the world of Detective Science without hesitation from among all the worlds filled with psychics, superpowered people, demons, and monsters. According to the Lord God, it was a world with absolutely no magic, legends, ghosts, monsters, or deities, just science! Ahem. When I asked why it was “Detective Science” instead of “Detective Science” with the other character, They guiltily dodged the question. But I didn’t think much of it. I couldn’t wait to start my retirement! I was such a fool. Truly. How could I have believed the lies spun by that black-hearted Lord God? Rejuvenation capsules, soccer balls that can kick satellites out of orbit, calendars over a thousand pages long, and running into eight bombs and murder cases over a single meal... Bourbon, stop driving the Mazda into the sky! I’m a law-abiding citizen! I’m tired. Let it all burn: D Lord God, get out here! I’m not a He if I don’t tear you apart today! A blond undercover cop discovers a regular customer at the cafe where he works. The black-haired young man always keeps his eyes half closed, his handsome face weary. He’s interested in nothing but sandwiches. His ability to crack cases at a glance, his unmatched skills, his impossibly fast healing, his mysterious past, the way he sometimes talks to thin air... The good guys: So he really is an experimental subject who escaped from some lab! He Ci (having just blown up an organization’s underground base) (tilting his head) (puzzled): Hm? Things to know before reading: 1. The police academy boys survive. 2. Written entirely in first person, with a few sections from other characters’ perspectives. 3. OOC warning. This is a self-indulgent fan work. If it’s not to your taste, please click the back button. Thank you. 4. Happy ending, with a few angst-heavy moments along the way. 5. The Black Organization has some original worldbuilding and characters. It draws only from the manga, not the anime. 6. No pairings in the main story or extras. There’s no romance or one-sided affection, so please don’t ship characters in the comments. Blurb for My Workaholic Boss and Me: Another idea I’ve been playing with: a laid-back but brilliant subordinate and his grumpy, workaholic boss. I want to quit. “This is the twenty-seventh time you’ve said that today. I’ve been listening to you talk about quitting every day since I joined the company two years ago. If you don’t quit soon, I’m going to quit from listening to you!” my coworker A complained without mercy. “That’s nothing! He’s been talking about quitting every day for the past seven years, ever since he joined!” coworker B chimed in. You don’t get it. This time, I’m serious. “Yeah, yeah. We believe you,” coworker C cut in. The office filled with laughter. So when I really did hand in my resignation to that blond, dark-skinned workaholic boss, my coworkers were left speechless. My boss was no exception. His violet-gray eyes fixed on me, clouded over with gloom. “...Why?” I bowed to the workaholic and answered with complete conviction, “Work is too exhausting... I’m going home to lie flat and do nothing!” He seemed utterly exasperated and handed my resignation back. “Denied.” Too bad. I said I was serious this time. Because my mission was already complete. Furuya Rei had always been exasperated by one of his junior colleagues and subordinates. The guy was clearly more suited to police work than anyone, yet he lounged at his desk every day, using all his intelligence to figure out how to pawn off his work, while constantly declaring that he wanted to quit. He did complete every task to perfection, and immediately at that, but his attitude needed serious correction. However, his busy life undercover never left him time to do it. Then, on the day the Black Organization fell, his subordinate formally resigned. “My mission is over. Goodbye, Furuya-kun.” He didn’t need to make time to correct him anymore. Or so he thought! How could he let someone like this waste his life away? Furuya Rei thought darkly: I won’t let this slacker go until I’ve dragged him back and made him work for me for the rest of his life! The blurb might not make it obvious, but the two of them are actually a couple. The blurb may change, but the central premise will stay the same. Theme: Live life earnestly.
