With her family’s money to fall back on, Zhou Ruomu kept a canary.
From the moment they met, Zhou Ruomu had her eye on Xia Shuran. She coveted her looks and lusted after her beauty.
When Zhou Ruomu heard that Xia Shuran was short on money, she led her to a secluded corner and leaned toward her with a beaming smile. “You need money, don’t you? How about becoming my lover?”
Zhou Ruomu thought Xia Shuran was her own pet canary. She provided food, clothes, and a place to live, so Xia Shuran had to obey her without question.
And that was exactly what happened. Xia Shuran catered to her every whim, indulging all her sudden little fancies. For a while, Zhou Ruomu was utterly lost in the canary’s tender embrace.

Then, not long afterward, another company won a project Zhou Ruomu had been handling. The person in charge was Xia Shuran. Only then did Zhou Ruomu learn Xia Shuran’s true identity: she was the head of a top-tier wealthy family.
Zhou Ruomu watched the woman she had treated like a canary calmly take the seat opposite her. Xia Shuran’s gaze settled on her, and she curved her lips into a faint smile. “I think we can talk about something else.”
Zhou Ruomu sneered. “What? How you’ve been playing me all this time?”
A hint of innocence entered Xia Shuran’s eyes. “But you were the one who came after me in the first place. From beginning to end, I let you do whatever you wanted, didn’t I?”

Thinking back on everything, Zhou Ruomu was furious. She unilaterally ended things with Xia Shuran
only to be cornered and pushed back inside as soon as she stepped out of the room.
Xia Shuran pinned her to the bed, gripping her wrist bone as she demanded through clenched teeth, “Haven’t I treated you well enough? Why are you so determined to leave me?”
Only then did Zhou Ruomu understand that she was the canary trapped in the cage all along.
Song Ling was a poor little squirrel.
To make ends meet, she took human form every day and went to the human city to work as a domestic helper.
One day, on her way home after work, she found a woman covered in blood. Thinking that saving one life was better than building a seven-story pagoda, she brought the woman back to her little home.
She planned to send her away as soon as she woke up, but the woman had lost her memory. Faced with that bewildered gaze, Song Ling had no choice but to take her in.
After losing her memory, the woman was good in every way, apart from being clingy and a little too lustful. Especially her face: cool and otherworldly, it left Song Ling so lovestruck she couldn’t tell north from south. All she wanted was to work hard and make more money so she could give the woman a better life.
Song Ling thought they would go on living like that until one day, she took the money she had secretly saved and went to the Treasure Pavilion, hoping to have a jade pendant made as a surprise for the woman. There, she unexpectedly saw the woman being ushered inside with great respect.
The people at the Treasure Pavilion said, “That’s an honored guest. Make sure she’s treated well.”
Seeing a woman so different from the one she knew, Song Ling finally understood.
The woman had been pretending to have amnesia all along.
And that wasn’t all: she was also the secret owner of the biggest bank.
The very place where Song Ling had been working as a helper.
Song Ling was devastated. “I work for you during the day, serve you at night, and then hand over the money I earn. You’re exploiting me by moving money from one hand to the other. Are you even human?!”
The coldness between the woman’s brows softened at once. “Then from now on, I’ll entrust both my money and myself to you. How does that sound?”
Song Ling: “Who wants you? I only want your money!”
The woman kissed her gently. “You really don’t want me?”
Song Ling gave in. “...I do.”
