Yun Yu is a greedy little hedgehog.
After finally taking human form and sneaking into the sect, she can't resist her appetite. Every night, she changes back into her animal form and sneaks off to steal food from the wealthiest part of the sect, where the alchemists live.
One night, a woman catches her. Yun Yu assumes she's a new disciple.
Impressed by the woman's incredible cooking, Yun Yu pats her tiny paws against her chest and teaches her all sorts of tricks for stealing food. "Be my sidekick. I'll look after you at the sect from now on. If I've got something to eat, you'll have something to drink, too."
The woman smiles warmly and gently feeds her a fresh blueberry. "All right. Eat up."

One night, Yun Yu arrives early at the agreed-upon spot where she's supposed to sneak food with the woman, only to find her sitting in a chair surrounded by a crowd of alchemy disciples.
Her heart sinks. Her sidekick has been caught stealing food.
Yun Yu wants to run, but when she lifts a paw, she thinks about all the time they've spent together. Gritting her teeth, she bristles up and rushes to save her.
She rolls the wrong way and gets picked up by a disciple, who holds her by one of her quills. "Senior Sister Pei, it's a silly little hedgehog."
The struggling hedgehog thinks: Don't I deserve a little dignity?
Wait, Senior Sister Pei? Her food-stealing buddy? The Alchemy Sect's first senior sister, who's obsessed with making pills and rarely shows her face?
When the disciples leave, Yun Yu is cradled in Pei Yining's palm. The woman speaks softly and gently: "What are we eating tonight?"
