At the university orientation gala, Yue Bai was dragged by her roommate into a front-row seat. The show was at its final segment: the solo performance.

Under the lights, the performer onstage shimmered like someone who had stepped out of a painting, ethereal as an immortal. Her fingers danced, and the notes flowed.

Captivated by her singing, the roommate tugged at Yue Bai's hand and asked, "Have you heard of her? Sang Wan, one of A University's most famous students."

Yue Bai nodded. She'd certainly heard of her, and their breaths had even mingled once.

After the gala, Yue Bai stopped her in the stairwell corridor. "Senior, I came to find you."

The woman across from her lowered her eyes, patted her head, and smiled. "Good girl. Do you remember what you promised me?"

At that, Yue Bai's face suddenly flushed red.

At the opening ceremony, Pei Shuyu stood backstage with the other students who were about to give speeches, one of the outstanding student representatives.

Bored, she watched the girl giving a speech, leaning lazily against the wall behind her with her eyes closed.

After a while, the person beside her nudged her. "I heard you and Ji Yan grew up together?"

Pei Shuyu nodded. More than that, she'd once held her in her arms at midnight.

As they passed each other at the stairs on their way to the stage, Pei Shuyu teased her before stepping up to the podium. "My childhood friend, that was a great speech."

Ji Yan lowered her eyes and said nothing. She looked at the wall Pei Shuyu had leaned against and murmured with a smile, "More than childhood friends. We're also..."

The rest of her words were drowned out by the microphone.

The person beside her asked, puzzled, "What did you say?"

"Nothing."

Still the one I yearn for, Ji Yan repeated to herself.
