[The premise has changed. Feel free to follow or collect]
In a gloomy prison cell, Ling Jiudu bound himself to a Villain Redemption System.
The System told him that Ling Jiudu was exceptionally gifted, had a tragic past, and never let a grudge go unanswered. He was the perfect candidate to become the greatest villain of all time. But the System was no pushover either. The first step to redemption was waiting for someone to save him.
The System told him not to worry. It had already assigned that person a mission, and soon a peerless hero would come riding on seven-colored clouds to rescue him from this hellhole.
Ling Jiudu believed it, though he did not quite understand.
The System was like a loudspeaker, announcing every day what the future hero was doing.
So Ling Jiudu learned that while he was being hung up for three days and nights, the peerless hero had just picked up a few poor children and brought them back to a dilapidated mountain sect.
While Ling Jiudu was being humiliated and tormented, the peerless hero had miraculously opened a hundred acres of spiritual fields at that ramshackle sect.
While Ling Jiudu was being tormented by a poisonous parasite and was on the verge of death, the peerless hero had dazzled everyone with a single sword strike, earning a hall full of applause and making his shabby sect known in the cultivation world.
... Heh. Wasn't he supposed to save him?
Why wasn't he coming? Was someone else more worth saving than him?
On the day he slaughtered everyone in the demon lair, Ling Jiudu fell completely to darkness. Just as the System had said, he was a villain who stopped at nothing. He swore to make the world pay, starting with Nan Xiangye, that so-called hero who had nothing but a reputation.
He would abduct him while he slept, cripple his cultivation, break his wings, and lock him in a pitch-black prison.
Then he could make him suffer every agony he had endured.
How wonderful.

"Immortal Trail" was a role-playing game touted as having a high degree of freedom and realism, where players could do whatever they liked.
As a farming-game player, Nan Xiangye made full use of his agency as a player. He cultivated fields, mined, and built a sect, then recruited a few laborers for the rundown place. With the goal of crafting the most powerful equipment in the world, he threw himself into the game and forgot everything else. His sect grew day by day, and the player grinded until he was going bald.
As for that stupid main quest that sent him straight into the Demon Cult headquarters?
To the game planner who could issue a suicide mission like that: you are this! (thumbs-up.jpg)
So when he logged in again and found himself not at his sect's base, but lying on a cold bed, in an empty room shrouded in darkness, with an unsettling feeling of being watched drifting through the air, everything around him was so unfamiliar, and all his character stats had reset to zero...
Nan Xiangye stared in bewilderment.
Nan Xiangye fell into deep thought.
What did this mean? Had the game updated while he was logged out?
Was this new version about farming in a dungeon?
